SHARJAH // A shop has been caught selling pork rind snacks, officials said on social media.
Khor Fakkan Municipality investigated after a report came in about the shop, in Sharjah’s eastern region, selling snacks containing pork derivatives.
The director of the municipality said on the authority’s Instagram account that the report was received by the public health department.
“Inspectors responded to the report and visited the outlet in question. The crisps were found to be made from pig skin,” said Fawzia Al Qadi.
The owner of the business and the company that imported the products were summoned for questioning.
“All available legal action was carried out. The outlet owner was fined, he also signed a pledge not to sell any banned products at his business,” she said.
The director called on Sharjah residents to report any incident or suspicion they have that might put public health at risk.
“Residents’ reports of negative sightings or behaviours helps our department to protect consumers and raise the level of public safety,” said Ms Al Qadi.
Sales of alcohol and pork are outlawed in Sharjah.
