Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid meets Armenian president

DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid met the Armenian president on Thursday for a meeting in which their countries signed agreements in security, science, emergency response and commerce.

In his meeting with Serzh Sargsyan at Zabeel Palace in Dubai, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai said the UAE welcomes countries that support peace and human values.

Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian signed an agreement on security and fighting terrorism, reported Wam, the state news agency.

Three memorandums were signed on scientific and technical cooperation, emergency response, and commerce and industry. Sheikh Mohammed also accepted Mr Nalbandian’s invitation to visit Yerevan, the Armenian capital.

Mr Sargsyan said he is proud of their countries’ historic friendship and stressed Armenia’s willing to cement the ties through investments and economic and cultural partnerships.

The ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of the Emirates Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and other officials. Dr Jassim Al Qasimi, UAE Ambassador to Armenia, and Gegham Gharibjanian, his counterpart, also attended.
