Apple Plans First Touch‐Enabled OLED MacBook Pro for 2026–27

Apple is preparing to launch a MacBook Pro with an OLED display that also supports touch input, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Mass production is set to begin in late 2026, with a global release likely slipping into early 2027.

The device will use “on-cell” touch technology, integrating touch sensors directly into the top layer of the display rather than adding a separate touch layer. This represents Apple’s first pivot away from its long-standing policy of keeping MacBook screens non-touch and marks a convergence between the MacBook and iPad product experiences.

OLED panels for the new model are expected to come from Samsung Display, leveraging its Gen 8.6 assembly lines. These facilities are apparently capable of delivering the large displays Apple requires while meeting scale and cost expectations. Rumours also suggest the laptop will feature a thinner chassis and possibly a smaller notch or alternative webcam design to reduce visual obstruction.

Before the OLED touch MacBook Pro, Apple is expected to refresh the MacBook Pro line with the M5 chip earlier in 2026. The OLED model may arrive with or after the M6 generation. Alongside this, a more affordable MacBook powered by an A-series chip is also in planning and is scheduled for production in the fourth quarter of 2025; however, that version will likely omit touch features in its initial iteration. Touch input may be considered for its second generation in 2027.
