The completion date for new passenger terminal at Dubai’s Al
Maktoum International Airport (DWC) has been pushed back to 2018.
Dubai Airports, the owner and operator of DWC and
Dubai International Airport (DXB), said in its 2015 statement that it expected the
expansion to complete in the first quarter 2017.
“The expansion of Dubai World Central’s passenger
terminal building from the current five million passengers per year to 26
million passengers will occur in 2018 following the successful completion of
construction, trials and testing,” a spokesperson told Arabian Business on
Wednesday, without giving any exact date for the opening.
“Dubai Airports has always maintained an approach
that focuses on facility readiness and the provision of high service levels,”
he added.
On Sunday, Dubai government said it secured $3bn in
long-term financing for expansion of its airports, which are expected to serve
146.3 million passengers by 2025.
The Al Maktoum International Airport is
planned to become the primary airport for Dubai as well as the home to Emirates
Airline starting in 2025.
DXB is the world’s largest international airport,
with 84.5 million passengers received in 2016, an average compound annual
growth rate of 12.7 percent since 2000.
Dubai Airports CEO said this week that the two airports are expected to see a combined total of 100 million passengers using DXB and DWC during 2017.
