Abu Dhabi Expands Freelancer Licence to Include 30 New Activities

Abu Dhabi’s initiative to broaden the scope of its freelancer licence has introduced 30 additional activities, aiming to enhance opportunities for skilled professionals across various fields. The Abu Dhabi Business Centre (ADBC) made the announcement, which marks a significant step in the city’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a leading hub for talent and innovation.

Among the new activities now eligible under the freelancer licence are cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) development, electronic equipment design, oil and natural gas software development, data analysis, and 3D imaging. This expansion is expected to attract a diverse range of professionals, from tech innovators to creative designers, who can now operate independently within Abu Dhabi.

The freelancer professional licence, which has already gained traction, allows qualified individuals to offer their services directly to companies, institutions, and individuals. To qualify for the licence, applicants must demonstrate relevant experience or hold academic or professional qualifications in their respective fields. The licence can be obtained through the TAMM app, streamlining the process for professionals looking to establish themselves in the emirate.

Last year, the ADBC issued 1,013 licences, reflecting the growing demand for freelance opportunities within Abu Dhabi. Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, the executive director of ADBC, emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering an innovative environment, with the expansion of the freelancer licence being a key part of this strategy. This move is expected to further bolster Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a vibrant destination for businesses and investment.

This expansion of the freelancer licence aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader economic diversification goals, encouraging the development of new industries and the attraction of global talent to the region. By supporting freelancers across a wide array of sectors, the emirate is positioning itself to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market.

The decision to include activities such as AI development and data analysis highlights Abu Dhabi’s focus on technology and innovation as drivers of future growth. As the demand for specialized skills in these areas continues to rise, the freelancer licence provides a flexible and accessible platform for professionals to contribute to the emirate’s economic landscape.

This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on both the local economy and the broader Middle Eastern market, offering new opportunities for collaboration and innovation. As more professionals take advantage of the expanded freelancer licence, Abu Dhabi is likely to see a surge in entrepreneurial activity, further establishing its role as a leading center for business and technology in the region.
