In response to Apple’s development of the in-house C1 cellular chip for the iPhone 16e, Qualcomm is intensifying efforts to maintain its market position. The X85 is central to this strategy, aiming to deliver superior connectivity and battery efficiency for Android devices. Chief Financial Officer Akash Palkhiwala emphasised Qualcomm’s commitment to leadership, stating, “We’ve competed with a whole host of companies and we’ve consistently proved ourselves to be the leader.”
Beyond smartphones, Qualcomm is diversifying into PCs, vehicles, and the Internet of Things . The company aims to generate $22 billion in annual revenue from these sectors by 2029. The X85’s technology is expected to be incorporated across Qualcomm’s product portfolio, supporting this expansion.
At MWC, Qualcomm also showcased advancements in 5G Open RAN technology. Collaborations with network operators and infrastructure providers globally are adopting Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Cellular Infrastructure platforms for 5G O-RAN deployments.
