UAE summons Swiss ambassador over Bahrain statement

ABU DHABI // The UAE has summoned the Swiss ambassador over a statement made by her country against Bahrain.

Dr Abdulrahim Al Awadhi, assistant minister for legal affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, summoned Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum, director of the ministry’s European Affairs Department, also attended.

Dr Al Awadhi expressed the UAE’s denunciation of the Swiss statement against Bahrain made at the Human Rights Council, reported Wam, the state news agency.

He said such issues should be resolved through bilateral channels between Bahrain and Switzerland and that Bahrain has made steps to improve its human rights record.

Dr Al Awadhi said Bahrain’s security and stability is integral to that of the UAE, according to Wam.
