Panasonic has outed a new Android-powered tablet in its Toughbook family, which will look to entice consumers despite its hefty price tag.

The company launched its Toughpad FZ-A2 in the U.S. on Jan.12, 2017. The Android-powered Toughpad is the latest addition to the company’s Toughbook family.

“The FZ-A2 is the ultimate tablet for mobile field work that will continue to evolve with our customers’ needs and work requirements,” noted Brian Rowley, VP of Marketing and Product Management, Panasonic.

The Toughpad FZ-A2 fulfils its promise of being an enterprise-focused tablet as it provides users with options like forklift and vehicle mount. The portable nature and light weight of the device, along with these optional features helps the user easily handle the device for delivery or route driving.

Panasonic, a company famous for manufacturing computing solutions for diverse purposes, had announced it plans to invest $256 million in Tesla in December, 2016.

As reported by us, the deal was signed by Panasonic to fund and finance Tesla’s production plant in the city of Buffalo and also to carry out more business with corporate clients and not just produce consumer electronics.

Panasonic FZ-A2 Design And Specs

The FZ-A2 Toughpad sports a 10.1-inch WUXGA display (1920 x 1200 pixels). The bright and clear display of the FZ-A2 tablet is suitable for indoor working conditions as well as outdoor field work

The rugged tablet is powered by Intel Atom x5-Z8550 processor with a speed ranging from 1.44 GHz up to 2.4 GHz.

Panasonic provides 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of on-board storage, with the option to expand the latter further using a microSD card (upto 32 GB). Furbished with a 800 nit, 10-point captive touchscreen display, the screen can be used perfectly with or without gloves making the tablet useable for all work conditions.

The Toughpad runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. It is equipped 2720 mAh battery which according to Panasonic, will make the tablet operational for up to 9 hours. The device also comes with an option of “hot swap battery” for users who want to use it via the business expansion module.

Panasonic proves that the Toughpad is a rugged and purpose built tablet by providing the user three integrated configurations to choose from.

The configurations include optional features like barcode reader for retail booths or warehouses, a smart card reader for security kiosks and an additional USB port to connect external devices.

The tablet comes with a 2MP front-facing camera and 8MP rear-facing camera with auto focus and LED light. It also features front-facing buttons to make daily tasks much easier. The tablet also has a rating of IP65 for dust and water protection.
