District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the 34-year-old woman from Kinarut, Papar, was apprehended by a team of narcotic police in an area behind Wisma Merdeka shopping complex at around 1.30pm on Thursday.

Two plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance, believed to be syabu, were placed neatly inside a box within a plastic bag she way carrying.

According to Chandra, a police investigation revealed that the suspect was on her way to meet another drug pusher for a transaction.

The drugs, said Chandra, could supply up to 100,000 drug addicts.

“The suspect will be remanded until Dec 21 while the case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

In related developments, Chandra said 179 drug addicts have been arrested by police this year for numerous drug offenses.

Police have also seized about 15.2kg of drugs valued close to RM2 million this year.
