Police command said in a statement that it received a total of 1,257 calls from 6-10am.

Major Mohamed Juma Aman, deputy director of the control room at the General Department of Operations at Dubai Police, urged drivers to be more alert to adapting to changing weather conditions.

He said all motorists must signal before changing lanes and abide by all traffic rules as low visibility could cause fatal accidents.

He also said that drivers should ensure that their windshields are clean and fog lights and signals are in working condition.

In 2013, authorities in Dubai launched a new initiative to try to avoid road crashes caused by fog.

Dubai Municipality said they were collaborating with Dubai Police to set up a network of fog and meteorological stations in different locations across Dubai aiming at improving the safety on road and at sea.
