Resident Evil 7 players will be able to transfer their saves between versions of the game bought on Xbox One and the PC Windows Store, raising questions as to whether the game will be part of Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere scheme.

In an article about features present in each format of the game, Dengeki (as translated by IGN Japan) reports that “the Windows Store version can share play data with the Xbox One version”. In a statement to IGN, Capcom confirmed that Xbox-PC cross-saving is included.

Cross-saves are a key feature of Xbox Play Anywhere – the Microsoft promotion that sees buyers receive PC and Xbox One versions of participating games for the price of a single purchase. In the case of multiplayer titles, cross-play is also included.

It raises the question as to whether Capcom will announce that the game will become one of the first third-party games to take advantage of the scheme – Capcom has been specific that it is specifically PC and Xbox that will benefit from the feature, and cross-saving isn’t a widely useful feature without a cross-buy option.

However, when asked, the publisher would not confirm anything further to us.

Despite being a multi-format game, much of Resident Evil 7’s early marketing has been centred around PS4, with its announcement at Sony’s E3 conference, the Beginning Hour demo, and Kitchen VR experience being PS4-exclusive. Even the full game’s VR mode may remain PlayStation-exclusive for a year.

The Dengeki article also states that the game supports HDR on all formats, plus 4K on PS4 Pro and PC, and confirms full-game compatibility with PSVR.

It’s not long until we find out just what the mysterious new survival horror has in store – the game’s due for release on on January 24, 2017. Capcom clearly has hopes as high as our own – it’s expecting 4 million copies to be sold.
