St. John Bosco and the NFHS Network will form an affiliate partnership to produce and live stream high school sporting events powered by students.

St. John Bosco is thrilled to be at the forefront of this exciting step forward in high school sports media.”

— Dr. Brian Wickstrom

BELLFLOWER, CA, UNITED STATES, August 11, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ — St. John Bosco High School is leading the way in bringing coverage of high school sports to the masses. On the heels of their partnership with For A Bright Future Foundation that brought a brand-new media lab to their campus and their subsequent plans to launch their own streaming network, Bosco+, St. John Bosco has now established an affiliate partnership with the NFHS Network.

The NFHS Network, operated by PlayOn! Sports, is the leading network for access to high school sports in the country, offering audiences unlimited access to live and on-demand games. St. John Bosco, as an NFHS Network Affiliate, will produce selected Bosco home and away games, and other games in the CIF Southern Section for the Network as a result of this new partnership. The NFHS Network will provide camera systems for the school’s baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer and swimming facilities as well as production software for the school’s media lab. Further, the NFHS Network will collaborate with St. John Bosco’s Film & Media Arts Pathway program on training and curriculum development for its students, who will produce each live event.

“St. John Bosco is thrilled to be at the forefront of this exciting step forward in high school sports media. By forming an affiliate partnership with the NFHS Network, the leader in high school sports broadcasting, we’re not only providing wider coverage for our championship-winning athletic programs to our fans, but we’re also providing an incredible learning opportunity to our Film & Media Arts Pathway students who will be producing the games. This step, made possible by the For a Bright Future Foundation Media Lab that opened at St. John Bosco in February, is huge for our school community and for high school sports across the country,” said Dr. Brian Wickstrom, St. John Bosco President & CEO.

“The NFHS Network is proud to partner with St. John Bosco to empower students to gain real-world experience in broadcast journalism through the prestigious Film & Media Arts Pathway program,” said David Rudolph, PlayOn! Sports CEO. “We look forward to seeing the talent of the student-broadcasters and student-athletes at St. John Bosco showcased to a wider audience.”

The Film and Media Arts Pathway is a professional industry preparation program at St. John Bosco designed to prepare students for collegiate film school. From screenwriting, production and design to directing and producing, students learn about the business of the media industry through a hands-on, project-based approach. Senior Film & Media Arts Pathway student Jerrod Montgomery is excited to get started. He said, “To have this opportunity to learn from the best in the business and to actually produce a game at a professional level for a platform like the NFHS Network is something I never thought I’d be doing in high school.”

The partnership will involve a multi-sport, student-powered production initiative for Bosco home and away games and will later expand to additional schools in Southern California to expand the broadcast web for the NFHS. St. John Bosco is set to distribute the replays of the live games on their forthcoming streaming platform, Bosco+. The partnership is slated to kick off with St. John Bosco’s National Championship winning football team’s home opener on Friday, August 18 versus Liberty High School.

“As the head football coach at St. John Bosco High School, I am extremely excited to be partnering with the NFHS Network this upcoming season,” said Head Coach Jason Negro. “Bosco Football has become a national brand, so this new venture will help us expand our program’s exposure across the entire country. This unique partnership will also provide professional level production experience for the talented students in our school’s Film & Media Pathway.”

Head Basketball Coach at St. John Bosco, Matt Dunn, expressed his excitement for the partnership as well. St. John Bosco’s basketball program had a historic 2023 season with the team advancing to the CIF Open Division Final for the first time in school history. He added, “Being able to offer this type of innovative opportunity to our students, both in the classroom and in our athletic programs, is what we’re all about at Bosco. Not only will our Pathway students get to learn from the best, but our athletes will get to play in front of a larger global audience.”

More information about the St. John Bosco vs Liberty football game, set to stream on the NFHS Network on Friday, August 18, will be available in the coming week.

— Emma McCagg

LONG ISLAND, NY, UNITED STATES, August 3, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ —
On Thursday September 28th from 6pm-8pm, please join discerning art aficionados from NYC and across the world at the opening reception for Emma McCagg’s “Mr & Mr and Family” exhibition, happening in the West Village at Proyectos Raul Zamudio, 78 Jane Street, upper level, NY, NY 10014.

The New York State Council for the Arts (NYSCA) sponsored exhibit consists of portraits that Emma has painted of the families of gay men who are raising children; including Talk Show Host Karamo Brown; Songwriter Desmond Child & Curtis Shaw; Actor Claybourne Elder & Playwright Eric Rosen; CEO of Barry’s Bootcamp Joey Gonzales & Chef Jonathan Rollo; and UK Businessman Barrie Drewitt – Barlow along with possibly a few more celebrity surprises!

The idea for project came when Emma met the first “Daddy Double” – the term Curtis Shaw, one half of the couple, coined when referring to himself and his husband, Desmond Child; the grammy winning songwriter, penning songs like Livin’ La Vida Loca (Ricky Martin), Dude Looks Like a Lady (Aerosmith), Livin’ on a Prayer (Bon Jovi) and many more. Curtis and Desmond have been married for thirty years and have raised twin sons, now twenty one years old. The Shaw-Child family were even featured in a documentary about their life entitled “Two: The Story of Roman and Nyro” (2013).

The paintings of New York based artist Emma McCagg have been exhibited internationally at world renowned events including the 2009 Beijing Biennial, 2008 Yeosu International Art Festival, as well as at group and solo shows in a litany of museums, galleries, and art fairs in many cities.

While a painter first, Emma has also become an award winning filmmaker. For her first film, a feature documentary titled “There’s Something About John”, she received an artist fellowship from the New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA), grants from both the JM Kaplan Fund and the City Artists Corp, and many private donations. Among other festival awards “TSAJ” won Best Feature Documentary at the Big Apple Film Festival and Audience Choice in the Amsterdam Lift Off Film Festival. Several of her short films and vignettes have also been shown at the 3rd Ward, Brooklyn, NY, the White Box, NY, NY, and the Salazar Gallery, San Diego, CA.

Cancel culture activists won the battle, but award-winning ‘Punisher’ comics writer Mike Baron won the war

This is ‘The Punisher’ that comicbook fans have been missing!””

— David Finn, Signal of Doom Podcast

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, August 2, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ — Comic book writer Mike Baron spent four decades writing heroes from Punisher to Nexus to The Flash to “Star Wars.” But it wasn’t comic-book villains that he had to overcome in 2023, it was “cancel culture.” And just like many of the classic heroes he wrote for, he walked away victorious, with a massive war chest raised for “Private American’ his new graphic novel about a vigilante fighting cartels on America’s southern border.

Baron reflected on his years of writing the Punisher at Marvel Comics and imagined what a character like that would be doing in 2023 if he were writing it. “The Punisher would be defending our southern border,” Baron says “battling cartels, human traffickers and terrorists exploiting the administration’s failure to protect American sovereignty.”

So Baron created a new hero; an ex-Green Beret sickened by what he sees in his home state of Texas, and seeking justice over the death of a dear friend against the cartels and criminals at the border. But for Baron himself, it wasn’t cartels, street thugs, or terrorists he had to fight. Once he launched the crowdfunding campaign for the graphic novel, another indie comic publisher sought to cancel the campaign by report the project on all the major crowdfunding platforms.

Within hours, each platform suspended the campaign, with one shadow-banning the book. Baron’s team quickly pushed back, appearing on podcasts and YouTube channels, and seeking assistance from the CBLDF and FIRE to help with their fight for artistic freedom and free speech. FOX News covered the story that same week, and the team sent their supporters directly to the website theprivateamerican.com, which directed customers where they could order the book.

The result was a huge victory for free speech. The book hauled in nearly $100,000 in pre-orders and began shipping to readers in June. It’s also been getting great reviews. David Finn of the Signal of Doom podcast says “it’s the Punisher the fans have been missing.” The book is now available for order on a new cancel-free, crowdfunding platform called FundMyComic.com. Baron’s team also hired the Dhillon Law Group to begin proceedings against those that deplatformed his book.

Now the Eisner award winning comicbook writer has launched a new crowdfunding campaign for his latest graphic novel, a Weird Western called “Bronze Star” over on Fund My Comic as well, which Baron says is the best work of illustrator Pat Broderick’s career, and where they’ve been assured they will never be canceled, but Baron is still sending his readers to bronzestarcomic.com as a precautionary measure.
