“I’m sorry,” said Ms. Najjar, 26, wiping her eyes. Hisham, who is shy and has large dark brown eyes, left the room to play with balloons. “It’s just that I almost lost him, not to violence or to war, but to diabetes.” A few birds singing in their cages brighten the grim space where Hisham’s family lives. But they also remind the family of what it left […]

Zverev might have beaten Nadal in Indian Wells last year if he had not missed a high forehand volley into the net when he held match point. On Saturday, the outcome was still very much in doubt with Zverev serving at 2-2 and deuce in the fifth set. He went on to win the longest rally of the match — a 37-shot spectacle — but when Nadal’s […]

Microsoft is poised to lay off 700 people the week of January 22, according to a Business Insider report. While Microsoft officials declined to comment on the report, I’ve heard from my contacts that it is correct. The 700 employees who are in line to be let go this coming week — the same week Microsoft is reporting its fiscal 2017 second quarter earnings — are part […]
But not everywhere. Pockets of celebration broke out here and there, in places where Mr. Trump’s nationalist message matched local stirrings, and his promise of friendlier relations with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and a harsher approach to Islamic terrorism were eagerly embraced. Previously, we explored the rationale behind it and pondered as to how this type of analytics could be classified. It’s time to pick up where we left off and explore how […]

Shares in Qualcomm fell 2.4 per cent to $62.88 just before the markets closed on Friday when the lawsuit was published. This is the first direct challenge by one of Qualcomm’s major […]
Henfey Park is not where Ryan earned the nickname Matty Ice, a reference to a fearless, swashbuckling style that has led to memorable late-game rallies and victories. But it may be where he honed the kind of daring, yet unflappable, confidence that has served him well in nine N.F.L. seasons. “Those games are the foundation for our toughness and competitiveness,” McGlinchey said Thursday. “We’ve had a few […]
