MANILA, Philippines (Philippines News Agency) — Isolated rainshowers may prevail in most parts of the archipelago on the first day of 2017.

Based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) 24-hour forecast, cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over CARAGA and Davao.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains, on the other hand, will prevail over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and eastern Visayas.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, the state weather bureau added.

PAGASA weather forecaster Robert Badrina cited that the trough of a low pressure area affects eastern Mindanao, while northeast monsoon is affecting Luzon.

Moderate to strong winds will blow from the northeast over Luzon and eastern Visayas. Coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, PAGASA said winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.
