Starting September 1, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will initiate a two-month visa overstay amnesty, offering a critical opportunity for thousands of individuals with expired visas to rectify their residency status or exit the country without penalties.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has announced the establishment of ten dedicated centers across the UAE to facilitate the amnesty process. These centers will provide services to illegal residents, including the issuance of exit permits and the waiving of all overstay fines. Applicants will undergo biometric screenings, including fingerprinting and iris scans, to ensure there are no pending criminal cases against them.

The amnesty, which runs through the end of October, aims to address the challenges faced by overstaying residents, workers, tourists, and visitors who have been unable to leave the country due to various constraints. Major General Mohammad Al Merri, Director General of the GDRFA in Dubai, emphasized that this initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian values by offering individuals a chance to resolve their legal status without enduring severe consequences.

Reports indicate that previous amnesty programs have been well-received, with thousands availing themselves of the opportunity. This year’s amnesty is expected to draw a significant number of participants, given the socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic that have left many residents in precarious legal situations.

In preparation for the amnesty, the GDRFA has launched an extensive awareness campaign to inform eligible residents about the procedures and benefits of the program. Community outreach efforts are being intensified to ensure that individuals from all demographics, including families, domestic workers, and low-income expatriates, are aware of the amnesty and can access the necessary support.

Additionally, the UAE government has partnered with various embassies and consulates to facilitate the repatriation of individuals who choose to leave the country. These diplomatic missions will assist with travel documentation and logistical arrangements, ensuring a smooth and dignified departure process for those opting to return to their home countries.

The amnesty initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader immigration policy reforms aimed at enhancing the legal framework and support systems for expatriates. By offering this amnesty, the UAE continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a balanced and fair approach to immigration management, which benefits both the residents and the nation’s socio-economic fabric.

As the start date approaches, residents are encouraged to visit the official GDRFA website or contact their local centers for detailed information on the application process and required documentation. The UAE government remains optimistic that this initiative will provide much-needed relief to overstaying residents and contribute to a more regulated and harmonious residency environment in the country.

The successful implementation of the visa overstay amnesty will not only alleviate the legal burdens faced by many but also reinforce the UAE’s reputation as a nation that upholds humanitarian principles and supports its diverse expatriate community.

A group of 85 Palestinians, including individuals severely injured and those suffering from cancer, have been evacuated to Abu Dhabi for medical treatment. The evacuees were accompanied by 63 family members, who will provide support during their treatment and recovery process.

The evacuation, facilitated by UAE authorities, underscores the ongoing humanitarian commitment to assist those affected by conflict and health crises. The arrival of these patients in Abu Dhabi marks a significant step in providing them with the necessary medical care that might be unavailable in their home region due to the ongoing instability and limited resources.

The patients were transported on a specially chartered flight that ensured their safe and efficient arrival. Medical professionals and support staff accompanied the patients throughout the journey, ensuring that their medical needs were met during the flight. The evacuees included a mix of individuals with severe injuries and cancer patients who require specialized treatment not accessible in their current locations.

Upon arrival, the patients were taken to various medical facilities across Abu Dhabi, where they will receive comprehensive care. These facilities are equipped with advanced medical technology and staffed by experienced healthcare professionals dedicated to providing high-quality care to the evacuees. The treatment plans for these patients will be tailored to their specific medical conditions, ensuring that they receive the most effective and appropriate care.

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention has coordinated with local hospitals to ensure a seamless transition for the patients. This coordination includes detailed plans for each patient’s treatment and recovery, with an emphasis on providing holistic care that addresses both their physical and psychological needs. Family members accompanying the patients will also receive support, ensuring that they can assist in the recovery process effectively.

This humanitarian initiative highlights the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide aid to those in need, regardless of their nationality. The country has a history of offering medical assistance to people affected by conflicts and natural disasters worldwide. The latest evacuation effort is part of a broader commitment to humanitarian aid and medical diplomacy, aiming to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable populations.

The patients’ journey from conflict zones to the safety of Abu Dhabi was made possible through extensive collaboration between various UAE government agencies and international humanitarian organizations. This collaboration ensured that all logistical challenges were addressed, providing a safe and efficient pathway for the evacuees to receive the care they need.

Healthcare experts in Abu Dhabi have emphasized the importance of providing timely and high-quality medical treatment to the evacuees. They acknowledge the significant challenges these patients have faced and are committed to offering them the best possible care. This commitment is reflected in the meticulous planning and resources allocated to this evacuation effort.

As the evacuees settle into their treatment regimens, the broader international community continues to monitor the situation in the conflict-affected regions. The UAE’s example of providing direct and immediate medical assistance serves as a model for other nations and humanitarian organizations. This approach not only addresses the immediate medical needs of the patients but also contributes to long-term recovery and stability by supporting the health and well-being of affected populations.

The UAE’s actions underscore a compassionate response to a complex humanitarian crisis, demonstrating solidarity with those in need and offering a lifeline to individuals facing severe health challenges. This initiative is a testament to the power of coordinated humanitarian efforts and the impact they can have on the lives of those affected by conflict and health crises.

Borouge, a leading petrochemical company in the UAE, is pushing forward with its ambitious Borouge 4 project despite the slowdown in China’s economy. The project, a significant part of Borouge’s expansion strategy, has recently surpassed the halfway mark, with completion expected by the end of 2025. This milestone marks a critical phase in what will become the world’s largest single-site polyolefin complex.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Borouge, highlighted the project’s progress during a site visit. The installation of the world’s largest Borstar gas phase reactors, each weighing over 500 tonnes, has been a significant achievement. The reactors will significantly boost Borouge’s production capacity, adding 1.4 million tonnes per year to reach a total of 6.4 million tonnes annually.

The Borouge 4 project, located in Al Ruwais Industrial City, is a joint venture between ADNOC and Borealis. This expansion aligns with the UAE’s industrial growth initiatives and the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ campaign, aiming to enhance local manufacturing capabilities. The project is also set to contribute significantly to the UAE’s decarbonization and energy efficiency goals, incorporating an ethane cracker designed to accommodate future carbon capture technologies.

Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge, emphasized that the Borouge 4 project is crucial for both the company and the UAE’s industrial sector. The project supports substantial economic benefits, with over $600 million in purchase orders already placed with local companies. Additionally, the project is a significant driver of job creation, employing over 20,000 individuals on-site and projecting over 100 million manhours to completion.

Despite global economic challenges, including the slowdown in China, Borouge remains optimistic about its future prospects. The company’s strategic focus on innovative and differentiated polyolefin solutions positions it well to meet the increasing demand in key markets such as China and India. These markets account for a substantial portion of global petrochemical consumption and are projected to drive significant growth in the sector.

Borouge’s expansion is not just about increasing production capacity but also about enhancing its role in supplying essential materials for critical sectors like energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. The Borouge 4 project will enable the company to better serve these high-growth markets, contributing to major renewable energy projects and other infrastructure developments.

Overall, Borouge’s continued progress on the Borouge 4 project underscores its resilience and strategic vision in the face of global economic uncertainties. The company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and local economic development positions it as a key player in the global petrochemical industry, driving growth and value for the UAE and its stakeholders.

This strategic initiative highlights Borouge’s role in advancing the UAE’s industrial capabilities and supporting national economic goals, even amid broader economic challenges.
