Author P.L. Hampton

Weaving history and horror with familial threads, a new voice in Black Literature has emerged from Running Wild’s RIZE Press.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA , UNITED STATES, August 3, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Prepare to delve into the realms of terror and intrigue in the genre-blending book Shadowland. Authored by a break-out voice in horror, P. L. Hampton, this thought-provoking page turner is set to release on September 5, 2023, from Running Wild’s RIZE press.

When Aaron Langford receives a Yoruba Divination Board as a housewarming gift, he doesn’t know it will open the door to a supernatural realm, one that takes both his children, sending Aaron on a journey to find them in the Shadowland.

Hampton blends historical facts and fiction, inviting readers to ponder the origins of the Yoruba Divination Board, also known as a Talking Board, while immersing them in the Langford family’s journey.

Having himself acquired such an artifact—and raised by a mother who sees spirits—Hampton delivers an authentic experience. “My novel not only incorporates African and Black themes into the story but also brings the dynamics of family and love. In the end, Shadowland is about a father’s love for his children and his family,” says Hampton.

In Shadowland, Hampton explores the rich past and present tapestry of African American culture, merging it with the macabre and the uncanny, all while paying homage to the resilience and depth of a society steeped in history.

Shadowland is available for pre-order in e-book and paperback formats from RIZE publishing on Amazon. You can also request an advance reading copy on NetGalley.
ISBN Paperback: 978-1- 955062-80-0

‘Bronze Star’ graphic novel

Cancel culture activists won the battle, but award-winning ‘Punisher’ comics writer Mike Baron won the war

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, August 2, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ — Comic book writer Mike Baron spent four decades writing heroes from Punisher to Nexus to The Flash to “Star Wars.” But it wasn’t comic-book villains that he had to overcome in 2023, it was “cancel culture.” And just like many of the classic heroes he wrote for, he walked away victorious, with a massive war chest raised for “Private American’ his new graphic novel about a vigilante fighting cartels on America’s southern border.

Baron reflected on his years of writing the Punisher at Marvel Comics and imagined what a character like that would be doing in 2023 if he were writing it. “The Punisher would be defending our southern border,” Baron says “battling cartels, human traffickers and terrorists exploiting the administration’s failure to protect American sovereignty.”

So Baron created a new hero; an ex-Green Beret sickened by what he sees in his home state of Texas, and seeking justice over the death of a dear friend against the cartels and criminals at the border. But for Baron himself, it wasn’t cartels, street thugs, or terrorists he had to fight. Once he launched the crowdfunding campaign for the graphic novel, another indie comic publisher sought to cancel the campaign by report the project on all the major crowdfunding platforms.

Within hours, each platform suspended the campaign, with one shadow-banning the book. Baron’s team quickly pushed back, appearing on podcasts and YouTube channels, and seeking assistance from the CBLDF and FIRE to help with their fight for artistic freedom and free speech. FOX News covered the story that same week, and the team sent their supporters directly to the website theprivateamerican.com, which directed customers where they could order the book.

The result was a huge victory for free speech. The book hauled in nearly $100,000 in pre-orders and began shipping to readers in June. It’s also been getting great reviews. David Finn of the Signal of Doom podcast says “it’s the Punisher the fans have been missing.” The book is now available for order on a new cancel-free, crowdfunding platform called FundMyComic.com. Baron’s team also hired the Dhillon Law Group to begin proceedings against those that deplatformed his book.

Now the Eisner award winning comicbook writer has launched a new crowdfunding campaign for his latest graphic novel, a Weird Western called “Bronze Star” over on Fund My Comic as well, which Baron says is the best work of illustrator Pat Broderick’s career, and where they’ve been assured they will never be canceled, but Baron is still sending his readers to bronzestarcomic.com as a precautionary measure.

“The Machine” is headed to Milford for the Disc Golf Pro Tour Playoffs! Bert Kreischer will be attending his very first professional Disc Golf event!

MILFORD, MICHIGAN, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, August 2, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ — Bert Kreischer is a household name in the world of comedy. Known for his energetic stage presence and his ability to make people laugh until their sides hurt, the stand-up comedian, podcaster, television host and actor has recently been exploring a new passion: Disc Golf. Bert originally found the sport in college, but rediscovered it in Texas while looking for different ways to spend more time outside, especially while on tour. Since falling back in love with Disc Golf, Bert has been a vocal advocate for the sport on his podcast and in media appearances, notably discussing it on shows like The Rich Eisen Show and The Joe Rogan Experience.

Bert is now taking his fandom to the next level as he prepares to attend the Discraft Great Lakes Open, the first Disc Golf Pro Tour Playoff Event of the 2023 season, and Bert’s very first professional Disc Golf event!

Bert Kreischer initially rose to fame through his stand-up comedy routines and his popular podcasts, 2 Bears, 1 Cave,Bertcast, and Open Tabs, as well as his cooking show, Something’s Burning. His fame took a leap when his popular 2016 standup routine inspired a feature film aptly titled The Machine (2023), co-written and starring Bert himself. The comedian’s journey into the world of Disc Golf, one of the world’s fastest growing sports, has been no less thrilling. Bert has popped up in the YouTube feed of disc golfers more than once over the years, featured Disc Golf in his own content and graciously appeared on Disc Golf specific YouTube channels like Foundation Podcasts. Kreischer sees Disc Golf as more than a pastime, going out of his way to recognize the sport’s accessibility, supportive community, and health benefits.

Later this month, Kreischer will be in attendance at the Discraft Great Lakes Open! Recognizing Kreischer’s enthusiasm for the sport and his massive fanbase, Discraft has made a move to expand the VIP fan area – aptly dubbed the “Bert Zone” – with additional bleachers, tents, and a large video board to enhance the spectator experience. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the larger than life experience for themselves.

In addition to the “Bert Zone”, fans will have the opportunity to purchase exclusive Bert Kreischer discs. This unique memorabilia centers around Bert’s love for Disc Golf, inclusive of commemorative items worthy of any disc golfer’s collection.

Bert’s participation in this year’s Discraft Great Lakes Open is not just about watching the best Disc Golf pros in the world; Bert is also lending his celebrity status to a good cause.
