Bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and India surged past US $37.6 billion in the first half of 2025, marking a 33.9 per cent increase compared with the same period in the previous year. The UAE’s Foreign Trade Minister, Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, highlighted during his Mumbai visit the pivotal role of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in propelling this growth. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation across pharmaceuticals, food and logistics, alongside Bharat Mart, a 2.7 million sq ft trade complex in Jebel Ali Free Zone designed for Indian exporters to reach markets across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Trade figures underscore that CEPA has significantly deepened economic ties. In 2024, non-oil trade between the two nations topped US $65 billion, reflecting a 19.7 per cent increase from 2023 and more than doubling the 2020 tally of US $27.9 billion. UAE investments in India reached around US $17 billion by late 2023, while Indian investments in the UAE climbed to approximately US $8 billion—total mutual investment topping US $25 billion, with the UAE accounting for 70 per cent of that figure.

This dynamic was further backed by the UAE-India CEPA Council’s Start-up Series, which has drawn more than 10,000 applications from Indian entrepreneurs since its launch in June 2025. The initiative, showcased in New Delhi by Ahmed Aljneibi, has made stops at leading institutions including Banaras Hindu University and the Master’s Union School of Business, offering mentorship, regulatory guidance and pathways for cross-border scale-up.

The strategic focus on innovation also extends beyond startups. Sheraa, Sharjah’s entrepreneurship centre, and Startup Middle East signed a memorandum to establish an India Startup Hub in Sharjah, aimed at facilitating the entry of Indian ventures into the UAE market and strengthening regional innovation ecosystems.

Policy measures in the UAE are evolving to match this economic outreach. Amendments to more than 40 laws, most notably the Commercial Companies Law enabling 100 per cent foreign ownership, are part of a broader strategy to double the non-oil economy—from US $381 billion to US $762 billion—by 2030. Foreign trade is viewed as central to achieving that ambition, with the UAE’s connectivity, infrastructure and logistics network seen as vital assets for Indian businesses seeking wider regional access.

CEPA’s architecture underscores its comprehensive approach: since its implementation in May 2022, tariffs on more than 80 per cent of Indian exports to the UAE have been reduced or eliminated immediately, benefiting sectors from gems and jewellery to pharmaceuticals and automobiles. Additional gains accrue from streamlined customs protocols, regulatory harmonisation and a joint committee addressing market-access and technical barriers.

Experts point to CEPA as transformative for both economies. Indian gems and jewellery exports more than doubled from US $4.9 billion to US $8 billion in fiscal year 2024, aided by duty removals. Labour-intensive industries such as textiles, leather, footwear, sports goods, plastics, furniture, engineering goods, agricultural produce and food items have also gained momentum, while regulatory alignment has accelerated entry of generic drugs and medical devices, boosting health-sector cooperation and supply-chain resilience.

Further integration is visible in emerging fintech and logistics initiatives. Bharat Mart reinforces logistical synergy, while the nascent Virtual Trade Corridor, fintech sandboxes and experiments such as India’s MagRail pilot demonstrate growing interoperability in digital trade and compliance systems.

At the political level, the CEPA enters its third year this February. Al Zeyoudi noted that India remains the UAE’s second-largest non-oil export destination, accounting for 13.5 per cent of total non-oil exports in 2024—a 75.2 per cent rise year-on-year. Conversely, the UAE is India’s third-largest trading partner and a major investor, illustrating the strategic depth CEPA has added to bilateral ties.

Mastercard and Circle have deepened their collaboration to enable settlement of transactions in USDC and EURC stablecoins for acquirers and merchants across Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Arab Financial Services and Eazy Financial Services are among the first institutions to access this capability, which integrates stablecoin payments into Mastercard’s established global network.

The initiative marks a clear shift towards tokenised money. Mastercard’s President for EEMEA, Dimitrios Dosis, emphasised the ambition to bring stablecoins into mainstream finance by investing in infrastructure, governance and partnerships, while leveraging the company’s longstanding expertise in security and compliance. Kash Razzaghi, Chief Business Officer at Circle, framed the move as a step towards “borderless, real‑time commerce,” seeking to make USDC as ubiquitous as traditional payments.

Arab Financial Services highlighted the tangible value of the new model: improved liquidity, operational efficiencies and dramatically reduced friction in high‑volume reconciliations. Eazy Financial Services underscored how the expanded settlement option aligns with its mission to offer faster, more secure, and efficient payment solutions, setting a fresh standard for digital settlements in EEMEA.

This development builds on existing collaborations such as crypto payment card solutions with the likes of Bybit and S1LKPAY, which already use USDC for settlement in the region. Mastercard further extends its stablecoin portfolio beyond USDC and EURC, already supporting USDG, FIUSD and PYUSD across various use‑cases spanning remittances, B2B, and payouts via platforms like Mastercard Move and the Multi‑Token Network, underpinned by its Crypto Credential and Crypto Secure frameworks.

Financial infrastructure experts view the rollout as particularly meaningful for emerging markets. World Bank data indicates cross‑border transfer costs remain high—around 8% on average—far exceeding the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal threshold of 3%. Introducing stablecoin settlement is expected to trim costs, accelerate transfers, and bolster working capital and currency resilience for small and medium businesses.

Analyses point to early adopters witnessing significant gains: settlement speeds up by 30%, and liquidity costs drop around 20%, according to some reports. Mastercard’s compliance infrastructure, combined with evolving regulatory frameworks like the European MiCA and US GENIUS Act, fosters institutional trust in this digital settlement evolution.

Circle is working to fortify USDC’s global footprint beyond this initiative. Its broader strategy includes partnerships with Finastra to plug USDC into traditional payment hubs, OKX for zero‑fee USDC conversions, and ventures with SBI Group and Ripple in Asia—all aimed at building liquidity, interoperability and widespread adoption.

Al Ghurair Mobility has sealed a landmark agreement with Dongfeng Motor Corporation to bring the premium electrified automotive brands MHero and Voyah into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The accord positions Al Ghurair Mobility as the exclusive regional partner responsible for the brands’ launch and rollout, in line with the country’s strategic shift towards sustainable mobility.

The deal was formalised during a signing ceremony attended by John Iossifidis, Group CEO of Al Ghurair Mobility; Oscar Rivoli, CEO of Motors at Al Ghurair Mobility; and Qiu Xiaojun, CEO of Dongfeng’s Overseas Marketing Division. This collaboration underscores a union of Al Ghurair’s regional stature with Dongfeng’s technological innovations.

Voyah, launched in 2021, represents Dongfeng’s vision for luxury electric mobility. Its flagship models—Voyah FREE SUV and Voyah DREAM MPV—are distinguished by elegant aesthetics, extended range capabilities, and advanced driver-assist functions, targeting buyers seeking a refined alternative to traditional luxury marques.

Meanwhile, MHero, introduced in 2022, draws from Dongfeng’s heritage in rugged, military-grade engineering. Its models, such as the MHero 1 and MHero 2, marry off-road prowess with electrified powertrains and premium comfort, offering a distinctive proposition within luxury off-road SUVs.

Industry analysis suggests this move aligns with a broader three‑year strategic partnership between Dongfeng and Al Ghurair, aimed at establishing the brands across the Gulf region. The agreement signifies Dongfeng’s growing commitment to the Middle East market and is designed to dovetail with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 agenda, which prioritises sustainable development and diversification.

For Saudi consumers, the arrival of MHero and Voyah promises a novel blend of luxury, performance, and eco‑friendly technology. Al Ghurair Mobility is expected to support these brands through not only sales and marketing infrastructure but also after‑sales service and technical support, leveraging its established regional presence.

The venture underlines both a strategic and symbolic development in Saudi Arabia’s automotive sector. The availability of high-end electric and hybrid vehicles—backed by major regional players—signals the Kingdom’s evolving consumer preferences and its commitment to transforming the mobility ecosystem.

Ajman NuVentures Centre Free Zone has launched a representative office in Dubai, strategically expanding its investment reach. The facility, situated on the ninth floor of Aspin Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road, will serve as a local hub for entrepreneurs seeking seamless company registration in Ajman through a fully digital platform.

H. E. Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of ANCFZ, inaugurated the office and highlighted its role in enhancing Ajman’s position as a rising business hub. He described the move as a model of public–private collaboration and a strategic step in responding to global economic shifts.

Mr. Rishi Somaiya, CEO of ANCFZ, explained that the new office will not operate as a service outlet but as a platform for promoting ANCFZ services and supporting a growing base of investors. He noted that within just one year of its launch, ANCFZ has attracted investment interest from over 150 countries and secured more than AED 250 million in total investments.

A partnership agreement was signed alongside the office launch, marking a commitment to long-term institutional synergy between ANCFZ and its partner, FDI Zone. This agreement is intended to streamline investment processes, offer technical and legal support, and foster economic integration between public and private sectors.

ANCFZ offers several investor-friendly advantages, including two‑hour business licence issuance, 24‑hour visa processing, and a completely digital setup experience. These features have distinguished it from many other free zones in the UAE.

In July, ANCFZ introduced a flexible “Pay as You Go” package, enabling businesses to launch with minimal upfront costs and pay only for services as needed—covering visa processing, legal documentation, and office services. Somaiya described the offering as empowering entrepreneurs to scale at their own pace.

This Dubai expansion aligns with ANCFZ’s broader strategy to enhance accessibility and affordability while supporting Ajman Vision 2030. By establishing a physical presence in Dubai, the zone aims to attract a broader investor base and lower entry barriers.

Placing the office in Dubai, a global business nexus, grants investors direct access to face-to-face support and eases navigation of the digital registration platform. Investors can now initiate company setup in Ajman from within Dubai’s business ecosystem, benefiting from efficient processing, simplified legal support, and transparent digital systems.

Over its initial year, ANCFZ booked notable growth—attracting entrepreneurs from more than 150 countries and accumulating investments exceeding AED 250 million.

The Dubai office is poised to accelerate that trajectory by enhancing investor outreach and reinforcing ANCFZ’s reputation for efficiency, transparency, and innovation. Its aim is to support founders through every stage of setup, with streamlined licence procurement, visa facilitation, and administrative assistance—all delivered through a user-focused digital infrastructure.

Major players and startups are racing to establish dominance in India’s quick‑commerce landscape, where urban consumers now expect deliveries within minutes. Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, Amazon Now, BigBasket Now and others are expanding rapidly, focusing both on speed and diversification beyond groceries, even as questions mount over sustainability.

Blinkit, the q‑commerce arm of Eternal, delivered a sharp uplift in adjusted revenue for the first quarter of 2025, reaching ₹71.67 billion—a year‑on‑year increase of more than 70 per cent. However, soaring expenses, largely driven by aggressive discounting and the rapid build‑out of “dark stores,” pulled net profit down by nearly 90 per cent to ₹250 million. Blinkit continues to lead in the segment, delivering groceries and essentials within 10 minutes across more than 30 cities.

Zepto, founded in 2021 by Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra, has built a dense network of dark stores across ten metropolitan areas and operates over 250 stores as of 2024. Its valuation has surged past $5 billion, underpinned by a leap in FY24 revenue to ₹4,454 crore.

Swiggy’s Instamart continues recalibrating its business, shifting from its origins in restaurant delivery to prioritising ultra-fast delivery of grocery and everyday items in a broader consumer market.

Global giants are also aggressively entering the fray. Amazon’s “Now” 10‑minute delivery service, first piloted in Bengaluru, has now rolled out across select New Delhi pin codes. Flipkart, backed by Walmart, has likewise deployed its rapid‑delivery offering in the country. Competition has intensified, with both global and domestic players vying to own consumer mindshare.

Market projections suggest explosive growth: quick‑commerce has scaled from about $300 million in 2022 to $7.1 billion in 2025, with forecasts projecting a staggering $40 billion by 2030. Growth is being fuelled not only by metro usage, but also by demand in tier‑2 and tier‑3 cities, which have accounted for 60 per cent of new e‑retail customers since 2020.

To support this infrastructure leap, commercial property heights are shifting downwards—hyperlocal warehousing is surging in both major metros and smaller cities. Platforms are converting underused urban spaces—like basements and small plots—into rapid fulfilment hubs to meet expectations of 10‑ to 15‑minute deliveries.

Still, financial caution flags are being raised. Gopal Srinivasan, chairman of TVS Capital Funds, has warned that India’s quick‑commerce boom may be a “passing fad,” sustained mainly by private equity and venture capital rather than sustainable economics. Industry observers point to sharp increases in customer acquisition costs, shrinking margins, and low consumer loyalty if discounts and free delivery models are scaled back.

The origins of the model lie in a consumer demand for ultra‑fast replenishment, transforming smartphones into virtual marketplaces not just for staples, but festive goods, personal care items, apparel and electronics—especially during cultural festivals like Raksha Bandhan.

A financial corridor is emerging beneath the digital storefronts: hyperlocal logistics operators such as Xpressbees, already present in over 4,500 service centres and 250 hubs by March 2025, are becoming critical partners to power the last‑mile challenge.

Traditional players are also adapting. BigBasket, owned by Tata Digital, has introduced a 10‑minute food delivery service in Bengaluru, including offerings from Tata Starbucks and IHCL’s Qmin platform.

Emirates NBD has joined the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Financial Services Task Force, becoming the first bank from the GCC to participate in the group of global banking CEOs aiming to mobilise large-scale capital for climate- and nature-positive investment.

The move positions the Dubai-based lender at the forefront of sustainable finance in the MENAT region, enabling it to collaborate in setting industry-wide standards for environmentally conscious banking.

Shayne Nelson, Group Chief Executive, described sustainability as central to the institution’s culture and strategy, emphasising that its established ESG achievements underpin its inclusion. He noted that this engagement will boost collective efforts to tackle climate and biodiversity challenges.

Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, Chief Executive of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, welcomed Emirates NBD’s integration, reaffirming the importance of unified private-sector action to drive transition at the scale and pace needed globally.

Vijay Bains, Chief Sustainability Officer and Group Head of ESG at Emirates NBD, stated that the bank is adopting both national and international standards and engaging all stakeholders—from employees and customers to investors and communities—in delivering meaningful impact. He underlined that the ESG strategy extends beyond climate risk to include inclusive, low-carbon products and governance.

Since its launch in 2020 by His Majesty King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales, the Sustainable Markets Initiative has formed alliances across private sectors and governments to devise and scale solutions for sustainable transition. The Financial Services Task Force has already developed standardised methodologies for banking transitions and expertise in nature-based financial instruments.

Emirates NBD’s inclusion marks a significant milestone for the GCC’s role in global sustainable finance. The partnership enables the bank to influence practices beyond the region, particularly in infrastructure investment and climate-aligned financial innovation.

This move arrives against growing investor demand for eco-conscious operations and the UAE’s increasing focus on embedding sustainability across its economic policy and corporate governance.

Snowflake, the leading cloud data platform, has inaugurated a new office at The Square, Vittal Mallya Road in Bengaluru, further solidifying its presence in one of India’s largest technology hubs. The move follows the company’s expansion into Mumbai earlier, reflecting its commitment to establishing a robust footprint in the country.

The new Bengaluru office aims to be a hub for innovation, with a focus on data and artificial intelligence. Snowflake intends to foster collaboration between local and global teams to leverage the rapidly growing talent pool in the region. The company is not only seeking to tap into India’s burgeoning tech ecosystem but also to cultivate a work environment where data professionals and engineers can develop solutions that drive both local and global customer impact.

Bengaluru, known as India’s Silicon Valley, is home to a vast number of technology firms, startups, and innovation centres. As one of the leading tech cities globally, it offers an abundance of skilled professionals and a vibrant startup ecosystem. Snowflake’s decision to expand in Bengaluru underscores its confidence in the Indian market and the country’s crucial role in its global growth strategy.

The new office will serve as a centre of excellence, enabling Snowflake to provide tailored data solutions to clients across various sectors, including finance, retail, healthcare, and technology. It will also act as a research and development hub, working closely with Snowflake’s global teams to accelerate the delivery of cutting-edge products and services. This move aligns with Snowflake’s broader strategy of capitalising on AI, machine learning, and advanced data analytics to deliver transformative results for businesses around the world.

Snowflake’s expansion is a part of a broader trend where global tech giants are increasingly looking towards India as a critical location for their growth and innovation. India’s talent pool, particularly in software development, data science, and AI, continues to be one of the main driving forces for international firms seeking to innovate and build scalable solutions. The Bengaluru office will further enhance Snowflake’s ability to tap into this wealth of expertise and cater to the growing demand for advanced data solutions in the region.

The company’s expansion is also expected to create significant job opportunities, not just in data engineering and analytics but across various domains, from sales and marketing to customer support. By strengthening its local presence, Snowflake plans to build stronger relationships with its clients and partners in the region, which will be essential as it looks to further integrate itself into the local tech ecosystem.

In addition to providing innovative solutions for businesses, Snowflake’s new office will serve as a training ground for local talent. With a strong focus on learning and development, the company intends to upskill its employees and equip them with the necessary skills to tackle emerging data challenges. The office will also act as a key centre for Snowflake’s efforts in advancing data security and privacy, two areas that are increasingly top-of-mind for organisations operating in the cloud.

Mavryk Network, a layer-1 blockchain platform that has been pivotal in the tokenization of over $10 billion in real-world assets, is gearing up for the official launch of its mainnet token. The project’s native token, $MVRK, will soon be available for trading on MEXC, a leading global cryptocurrency exchange. This launch marks a significant milestone for the network, which aims to revolutionise the way assets are digitised and managed in the decentralized finance space.

The $MVRK token is integral to the Mavryk ecosystem, designed to support various on-chain operations, including transactions, staking, and governance. This launch will provide liquidity to the token, offering users an opportunity to engage with the network’s growing ecosystem, which has steadily gained traction in the blockchain space. By listing on MEXC, Mavryk will expand its reach, tapping into a wider pool of potential investors and developers.

The Mavryk Network focuses on creating a robust framework for tokenizing RWAs, enabling the seamless integration of assets such as real estate, commodities, and other traditional financial instruments into the blockchain. This approach aims to provide users with the ability to access a broader array of investments, offering a new avenue for both institutional and retail participants.

A key feature of Mavryk’s blockchain is its scalability and efficiency. With the ability to process high transaction volumes at a low cost, the platform addresses a significant pain point in the blockchain industry – transaction speed and cost-efficiency. The network’s architecture is designed to facilitate the fast and secure transfer of assets, making it an appealing option for businesses and individuals seeking to leverage blockchain technology for asset management.

Industry experts have expressed optimism about the potential of Mavryk, particularly in light of the increasing interest in RWAs. Tokenizing these assets could unlock liquidity in traditionally illiquid markets, such as real estate and commodities, providing more flexibility for investors. The growing trend of tokenisation is seen as a critical development in the broader blockchain space, with numerous projects exploring the possibilities of converting physical assets into digital tokens.

Mavryk’s focus on RWAs is not the only aspect drawing attention. The platform has also made significant strides in establishing partnerships and collaborations across different sectors. By building strategic alliances with major financial institutions, developers, and technology providers, Mavryk is positioning itself to become a key player in the rapidly evolving blockchain ecosystem. These partnerships are expected to enhance the adoption of the platform, further solidifying its standing in the DeFi space.

The upcoming launch on MEXC will be closely watched by investors and blockchain enthusiasts alike. MEXC’s reputation as a trusted exchange, combined with its extensive user base, could drive considerable interest in the $MVRK token. As one of the top exchanges by trading volume, MEXC provides a platform with significant exposure, which could lead to an influx of liquidity for Mavryk’s ecosystem.

Looking ahead, Mavryk is also exploring the integration of more advanced features to enhance user experience and platform functionality. Among the features in development are enhanced staking mechanisms, cross-chain interoperability, and increased decentralization. These features are expected to complement the core mission of enabling seamless, efficient, and secure blockchain-based asset management.

Supermarket operator Spinneys has confirmed its expansion into Kuwait through a strategic joint venture with retail powerhouse Alshaya Group. Under the agreement, Spinneys will retain a 51 per cent controlling stake and will take responsibility for running and managing all planned outlets. The rollout includes ten stores, with the first store slated to open in 2026—marking the brand’s arrival in its fourth Gulf Cooperation Council market after UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Spinneys has accelerated its regional expansion over the last 16 months, opening twelve new stores in the UAE and two in Saudi Arabia between April 2024 and August 2025. The move into Kuwait aligns with the company’s ambition to position itself as the region’s leading premium fresh-food grocer, with Alshaya’s extensive regional experience providing vital strategic support.

Sunil Kumar, chief executive of Spinneys, described Kuwait as “a high potential market” offering robust growth prospects, and emphasised that the partnership with Alshaya offers a “solid foundation for a successful entry and long-term scale”. John Hadden, chief executive of Alshaya Group, highlighted Kuwait’s dynamic consumer landscape and the local appetite for premium offerings. He said Spinneys’ brand and operational strengths are expected to resonate strongly with Kuwaiti consumers.

Kuwait stands as the GCC’s fourth-largest economy, with some of the region’s highest per-capita disposable incomes. Its affluent and discerning consumer base presents considerable opportunities for high-quality retail formats. This expansion is seen as the natural next phase in Spinneys’ growth strategy.

On the financial markets, Spinneys’ share price saw an immediate boost following the announcement, climbing approximately 3.1 per cent. The company, which went public via a Dubai listing in May 2024, currently operates 86 stores across three GCC countries, including those under its own brands and Waitrose and Al Fair franchises.

Alshaya Group, established in 1890 in Kuwait, is a leading retail franchise operator across the Middle East, North Africa, Türkiye and Europe. It manages nearly seventy international consumer brands and has diversified operations across sectors including fashion, food, health and beauty, pharmacy, home furnishings and leisure.

The joint venture allows Spinneys to capitalise on Alshaya’s deep-rooted regional network and operational expertise while delivering its premium fresh-food proposition to Kuwaiti customers. At the same time, Alshaya adds a trusted high-end grocery brand to its extensive retail portfolio, enabling both firms to strengthen their regional positioning.
