Santos has agreed to extend the exclusive due diligence period for its proposed $18.7 billion acquisition by an international consortium led by Abu Dhabi’s National Oil Company. The extension, which will last until August 22, follows ADNOC’s initial offer made in June to purchase Australia’s second-largest gas producer. The consortium’s offer, priced at $5.76 per Santos share, includes ADNOC’s investment arm XRG, Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company, and the private equity firm Carlyle.

The agreement marks a significant step in ADNOC’s strategy to expand its global portfolio, particularly in the energy-rich Australian market. ADNOC, which has shown increasing interest in diversifying its energy assets, is now in the midst of an exclusive window to scrutinise the deal further. This process allows the consortium to continue its due diligence without competing offers interfering, a critical phase before a final agreement can be reached.

The initial bid, which valued Santos at approximately $18.7 billion, garnered attention for its scale and ambition. The offer of $5.76 per share represents a premium over Santos’ market value at the time the proposal was made. As the deal progresses, market observers are watching closely for any developments that might influence the final terms.

Santos, headquartered in Adelaide, is a key player in the Australian energy sector, with substantial stakes in natural gas fields and LNG projects. The company’s assets are seen as valuable in the context of rising global energy demands, particularly in Asia-Pacific markets. Santos has been working to strengthen its position in the energy sector, with a focus on cleaner energy options while maintaining its role as a major fossil fuel supplier.

The involvement of ADNOC in this deal is particularly noteworthy. ADNOC, already a dominant player in the global oil and gas industry, has been exploring opportunities outside of the Middle East as part of its broader strategy to secure energy assets worldwide. The consortium’s bid for Santos highlights ADNOC’s intentions to further diversify its portfolio, especially in the burgeoning Asia-Pacific energy market.

ADQ, Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, has also been actively investing in international markets. Known for its strategic acquisitions, ADQ’s partnership with ADNOC on this deal strengthens its position in global energy investments. Carlyle, a prominent private equity firm, adds another layer of financial muscle to the consortium, indicating the serious intent behind the bid.

The extended due diligence period provides all parties involved the time needed to ensure that the terms of the acquisition are fully evaluated. This includes a detailed analysis of Santos’ financial health, operations, and future prospects. The due diligence process is critical to determining whether the proposed offer is fair and in line with the long-term strategic goals of ADNOC and its partners.

Although the extension has been granted, market analysts remain cautious. They are closely monitoring how global energy market fluctuations might impact the deal’s progression. The energy sector, while lucrative, remains volatile, influenced by factors such as shifting geopolitical landscapes, regulatory changes, and the ongoing transition towards renewable energy sources.

In addition to financial considerations, the deal’s strategic value for ADNOC and its partners cannot be understated. For ADNOC, securing a larger foothold in Australia’s gas sector could provide both immediate returns and long-term stability, particularly in the face of fluctuating oil prices. Furthermore, as global energy companies look to meet the growing demand for liquefied natural gas, the acquisition of Santos could bolster ADNOC’s LNG production capabilities.

Santos’ shareholders will also be closely watching the developments, with many likely to evaluate the offer in light of the company’s future growth potential. Santos has been positioning itself to leverage Australia’s growing demand for LNG, particularly from China and Japan, two of the world’s largest LNG importers. However, concerns over the impact of external factors on the gas market could complicate the evaluation of such an offer.

The Gulf region is fast becoming a significant alternative hub for Indian jewellery manufacturing and exports, spurred by rising trade tensions between the US and India. Experts point to the growing challenges faced by Indian jewellers, particularly as American tariffs on Indian imports climb in response to geopolitical factors, including India’s continued oil purchases from Russia.

The latest move by the US, led by an executive order from President Donald Trump, has intensified trade uncertainties. The executive order, signed on Wednesday, introduces a hefty 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, with specific implications for the jewellery sector. This tariff hike, effective in three weeks, increases the overall tariff burden on Indian imports to 50 per cent—one of the highest rates the US has imposed on its trading partners.

For years, India has been the global leader in jewellery manufacturing, with a robust presence in the international market, particularly in the US. However, the imposition of punitive tariffs has forced many Indian jewellers to rethink their export strategies. The Gulf region, traditionally a key market for Indian gold and precious stones, is now gaining prominence as a strategic manufacturing base, offering a more favourable trade environment.

The decision to shift operations to the Gulf is driven by a combination of factors, including the region’s strategic geographic position and its trade agreements with major markets. Countries like the UAE and Bahrain have long been involved in the jewellery trade, but as tariffs increase on Indian exports to the US, their roles are now being redefined. Experts suggest that the Gulf’s advanced infrastructure, coupled with an array of free trade agreements, makes it an attractive destination for manufacturing and re-exporting high-end jewellery to global markets, including the US.

The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, one of the region’s leading jewellery trade bodies, has welcomed the shift, noting the opportunities it presents for growth. The UAE, in particular, has developed an attractive ecosystem for jewellery manufacturers, offering tax incentives, access to advanced technology, and a well-established logistics network. These benefits make it an appealing alternative for Indian jewellers seeking to bypass the punitive tariffs imposed by the US.

India’s reliance on the US market for jewellery exports, particularly in the high-end sector, has been significant. However, as the tariff burden becomes heavier, companies are exploring alternatives that provide both cost-effectiveness and access to lucrative international markets. Several large manufacturers have already established bases in the UAE, with plans to expand their operations further into the region.

A noteworthy trend is the increasing collaboration between Indian and Gulf-based jewellery firms. These partnerships are focused on expanding manufacturing capabilities while reducing reliance on traditional export routes. The UAE, with its business-friendly policies, is proving to be an ideal locale for jewellery production, particularly for smaller-scale businesses that are unable to absorb the full impact of the US tariffs.

One of the key drivers of this shift is the growing US demand for luxury goods, including jewellery. The tariff hike, while discouraging direct exports from India, has not dampened the appetite for high-quality jewellery. Instead, it has prompted companies to explore alternative routes to meet this demand. Experts point out that the Gulf provides a strategic advantage for such businesses, offering them the flexibility to maintain their competitive edge without the added burden of trade barriers.

The Gulf’s importance in the global jewellery trade has long been overlooked in favour of established centres like India. However, as geopolitical tensions continue to shape trade flows, the region’s position as a central player in the jewellery manufacturing process is becoming more evident. Industry insiders predict that over the next few years, the Gulf’s jewellery manufacturing and export capabilities will only grow stronger, reshaping the global jewellery supply chain.

For Indian jewellery manufacturers, the shift to the Gulf represents a broader strategy to diversify their risk exposure. By establishing a presence in markets that are less susceptible to abrupt policy changes, Indian companies are better positioned to mitigate the impact of volatile geopolitical situations. The expansion of Gulf-based jewellery production also ensures that India maintains a foothold in the lucrative US market, even as tariffs continue to escalate.

Reliance Industries, one of India’s largest conglomerates, faces significant decisions about its oil sourcing strategy amid increasing pressure from the United States to reduce its reliance on Russian crude. The Indian government, which became a major purchaser of seaborne Russian oil following Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, is now under mounting diplomatic pressure from Washington to cut its energy ties with Russia. The shift in policy would have substantial implications for the global oil market and India’s refining industry.

Reliance, which operates the world’s largest refining complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, is central to this decision. With the capacity to process 1.4 million barrels per day, Reliance’s massive refining operation plays a pivotal role in India’s energy landscape. Historically, the company has sourced significant volumes of Russian crude oil, a practice that began in earnest after the geopolitical upheaval caused by Russia’s invasion.

However, as the US ramps up its diplomatic efforts, India faces a delicate balancing act. Although India has repeatedly asserted its right to make independent decisions on energy imports, the US has been clear in its stance, urging the country to align with Western sanctions that limit Russian energy purchases. Washington’s pressure is focused not only on the political ramifications but also on the global strategy to curtail Moscow’s economic resilience through these sanctions.

Energy trade sources indicate that should Reliance cease purchasing Russian crude, the company would likely revert to Middle Eastern suppliers. The Middle East’s geographical proximity to India and its robust oil production capabilities make it an ideal alternative for Reliance’s vast refining operations. As global oil markets fluctuate, the alignment with Middle Eastern suppliers could allow Reliance to maintain its production capacity without significant disruptions.

Industry experts note that the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has been adjusting its output to accommodate changing demand patterns. OPEC’s decision to unwind its voluntary cuts has already resulted in increased crude oil production, providing more flexibility to companies like Reliance. This additional supply from the Middle East would likely ease the transition if Reliance moves away from Russian crude, experts suggest.

Nevertheless, shifting reliance back to Middle Eastern oil is not without its own set of challenges. While this move might reduce geopolitical tensions, it would also expose Reliance and other Indian refiners to fluctuations in Middle Eastern production and pricing. Additionally, the cost dynamics could differ, especially given the complexities of supply chain logistics, transportation costs, and currency fluctuations that could affect the price of crude oil sourced from the Gulf.

For India, the implications go beyond just the refiners. The country’s broader energy strategy could come under scrutiny as it seeks to maintain a balance between meeting domestic demand and adhering to international diplomatic pressures. As a major energy consumer, India has long sought to diversify its sources of crude oil to ensure stable supply chains, and the shifting sands of global politics only heighten the complexity of these decisions.

The pushback from Russia, meanwhile, is likely to become more pronounced. Moscow’s strategy in the face of sanctions has been to maintain its role in global energy markets by finding alternative buyers, including India and China, for its oil exports. With the growing Western pressure, Russia is expected to explore additional avenues for securing energy trade relationships, potentially targeting markets in Asia that are less susceptible to US-led sanctions.

American Bitcoin Corp., a Bitcoin mining firm linked to Donald Trump, is making waves in the financial world with plans to list on the Nasdaq. The move marks a significant step for the cryptocurrency industry, highlighting how major players are seeking to establish more conventional footholds on Wall Street.

Founded in 2021, American Bitcoin Corp. aims to scale up its operations significantly by tapping into public capital markets. The company has stated that it intends to raise substantial funds to expand its mining capacity and enhance its technological capabilities. According to internal reports, the firm has already secured partnerships with several high-profile players in the energy sector to support its ambitious plans.

The firm’s connection to Trump adds a layer of political intrigue to the listing process. Trump, who has long been associated with various business ventures, is reportedly involved in an advisory capacity, lending his brand and strategic expertise to the company’s growth. His endorsement has proven valuable in garnering attention, not only among traditional investors but also among those with a keen interest in the intersection of politics and business.

The move to list on Nasdaq comes at a time when the cryptocurrency mining industry faces increasing scrutiny over its environmental impact and energy consumption. Mining operations like those at American Bitcoin Corp. use vast amounts of energy to secure Bitcoin transactions, a process that has been criticised for contributing to carbon emissions. Despite this, the firm is positioning itself as an environmentally conscious entity, touting its use of renewable energy sources as part of its long-term sustainability plan.

American Bitcoin Corp. is not alone in its ambition to go public. Several other firms in the digital asset space have followed similar paths, capitalising on the growing interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. The listing process for such companies has been characterised by both enthusiasm and caution, as investors weigh the risks and rewards of entering an industry that is still in its infancy.

The company’s decision to enter the public markets through a direct listing rather than a traditional IPO is seen as an indication of its readiness to embrace the evolving financial landscape. A direct listing allows a company to bypass the usual underwriting process, allowing it to raise capital while potentially avoiding the costs and regulatory hurdles that come with a standard IPO. This strategy has been adopted by a growing number of firms in the tech and cryptocurrency sectors, where traditional methods of capital-raising are increasingly viewed as outdated.

There is no doubt that American Bitcoin Corp.’s decision to list on Nasdaq could be a game-changer for the cryptocurrency space. If successful, the company’s public debut could open the door for other mining firms and blockchain-based companies to follow suit, further integrating digital assets into the mainstream financial ecosystem. This would be a significant moment for the cryptocurrency industry, as it continues to move from the periphery of global finance into the centre stage.

However, as with any venture tied to the volatile cryptocurrency market, the risks associated with American Bitcoin Corp.’s listing cannot be ignored. Bitcoin and other digital currencies have faced wild price fluctuations over the years, and while the long-term outlook for the sector remains optimistic, many investors are still cautious about committing to assets that are prone to such dramatic swings. As a result, American Bitcoin Corp. will likely face considerable scrutiny from both the public and regulatory bodies in the coming months.

The company’s plan also raises broader questions about the future of cryptocurrency mining in the United States. With growing concerns over the environmental cost of mining and the regulatory uncertainty surrounding the sector, American Bitcoin Corp. will need to navigate a complex web of challenges in order to maintain its position as a leading player in the industry.

The involvement of high-profile figures like Trump could prove to be a double-edged sword. While his brand brings immediate attention to the company, it could also subject American Bitcoin Corp. to increased political scrutiny, particularly given the polarising nature of his public persona. The firm will need to strike a balance between leveraging Trump’s influence and distancing itself from the controversy that often surrounds his name.

Emaar Properties has reported a 33% year-on-year increase in net profit for the first half of 2025, reaching a total of AED 7.08 billion. The surge in profits is primarily attributed to the company’s strong performance in property sales, marking a significant rebound for the Dubai-based developer.

The company’s revenue for the period rose by 38% year-on-year, amounting to AED 19.8 billion. This growth was driven by notable gains across its diverse business segments, including development, retail, hospitality, and its expanding international operations. The company’s diversified portfolio helped strengthen its position amid global uncertainties, enabling it to capitalise on rising demand for both residential and commercial properties in Dubai.

Emaar’s property sales remained the cornerstone of its performance, with the developer reporting substantial activity across its developments. As a result, the company’s revenue backlog from property sales surged by 62% compared to the same period last year, reaching AED 146.3 billion by the end of June. This backlog indicates strong future earnings potential for the company, suggesting that the momentum in its core real estate business will continue into the second half of the year.

One of the key drivers behind this growth has been the high demand for residential properties, particularly in premium and luxury segments. The company’s flagship developments, such as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Hills Estate, continue to attract significant interest from both domestic and international buyers. Additionally, the retail and hospitality arms of the business have been buoyed by the easing of pandemic-related restrictions and a return to normalcy in tourism, contributing further to the strong overall performance.

Internationally, Emaar has also been expanding its reach, with projects in markets such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and India. The company’s international ventures, which contribute a growing share of its revenues, have provided a hedge against the fluctuating dynamics of the UAE market, particularly in a post-pandemic environment where global markets remain unpredictable.

The hospitality division has also experienced a marked recovery, with hotel bookings returning to pre-pandemic levels. Dubai’s status as a leading tourist destination has supported Emaar’s hospitality segment, as international visitors continue to flock to the emirate. The company’s hotels, such as those in the Dubai Marina and Downtown Dubai areas, have benefitted from both business and leisure tourism, bolstering revenue streams.

Looking forward, Emaar’s robust financial performance for H1 2025 positions the company well to continue its growth trajectory. The record revenue backlog provides a strong pipeline for future sales, with developments expected to deliver significant returns as they near completion. As a key player in Dubai’s real estate market, Emaar’s performance is closely watched by investors, analysts, and stakeholders in the industry.

The tragic death of a Dubai-based businessman aboard the Titan submersible could have been prevented, according to a detailed report. The incident, which occurred during a voyage to the wreck of the Titanic, saw all five passengers on board perish when the submersible suffered a catastrophic implosion in the North Atlantic. Among the victims was Shahzada Dawood, a well-known Pakistani-British businessman with deep ties to the Middle East. The new findings from investigations suggest critical lapses in the safety measures that led to the fateful disaster.

The Titan submersible, operated by the OceanGate company, was designed for deep-sea exploration and had made several successful expeditions before its ill-fated journey. On June 18, 2023, the vessel, with five people onboard, embarked on a mission to survey the wreck of the Titanic, located approximately 3,800 metres beneath the surface. However, less than two hours into the descent, the submersible lost communication, prompting immediate search and rescue operations. Tragically, the submersible was confirmed to have imploded, likely due to the immense pressure at that depth. No survivors were found.

In the aftermath of the incident, a comprehensive investigation was launched by the US Coast Guard, with the support of OceanGate and other stakeholders. The report issued highlights several disturbing safety concerns that may have contributed to the loss of life. One of the key findings revealed that the design of the submersible was flawed, especially in terms of its pressure resistance. Titan’s hull, made of carbon fibre and titanium, was found to be particularly vulnerable to the crushing pressures encountered at the extreme depths of the ocean.

The report also raises alarms over the lack of sufficient safety protocols. Despite previous warnings from experts and engineers about the potential risks of operating the submersible at such depths, OceanGate proceeded without addressing these concerns adequately. Furthermore, it was discovered that the company had a limited track record of using its submersible for commercial passenger voyages to the Titanic wreck, with only a few successful trips before the disaster. This limited experience, paired with a lack of comprehensive safety testing, created a dangerous combination.

Family members of those who perished in the incident have demanded accountability from OceanGate. Dawood’s family, in particular, expressed deep anguish, questioning whether the submersible was subjected to the rigorous safety checks expected of high-risk deep-sea vehicles. They have since called for more stringent regulations surrounding private submersible expeditions, pointing to the inadequacies in the oversight of such ventures.

OceanGate, in its defence, has acknowledged the tragic outcome of the mission, yet maintained that its technology was sound. However, the company’s CEO, Stockton Rush, who also perished in the implosion, had been previously warned about the unorthodox approach to safety that the firm followed. Rush reportedly ignored concerns from industry professionals and regulators, focusing instead on meeting the growing demand for expeditions to the Titanic wreck. This pursuit of speed and innovation, while admirable, ultimately cost lives.

The findings have sparked wider conversations about the regulation of private deep-sea expeditions. While the ocean exploration industry continues to grow, the Titan tragedy has underscored the need for a more robust framework to ensure the safety of passengers and crew alike. Calls for stricter regulatory oversight, including the requirement of more frequent and detailed safety checks, have gained momentum. There is growing consensus among marine engineers and experts that submersibles should undergo rigorous independent inspections before embarking on any mission.

North Korea’s illicit cryptocurrency operations are set to increase dramatically as the country continues to exploit weak regulatory environments and strengthen ties with financially motivated entities across the globe. These operations are increasingly seen as a source of revenue for the regime, particularly as international sanctions continue to cripple the nation’s economy.

Recent investigations have uncovered evidence suggesting that North Korea is employing sophisticated hacking groups to siphon off cryptocurrency from exchanges worldwide. These operations, often carried out through malware and phishing schemes, have become a primary tool for funding the state’s missile and nuclear programmes. The role of cryptocurrency in North Korea’s criminal operations is expected to grow significantly as global demand for digital currencies rises and regulatory frameworks remain fragmented.

The actions of North Korean hackers are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic effort to launder stolen funds through a network of virtual currency exchanges. Many of these exchanges, particularly those based in countries with lax regulations, either knowingly or unknowingly facilitate these criminal activities. Some of the exchanges have been linked to regions in Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe, where crypto regulations are either weak or non-existent. These exchanges have financial incentives to turn a blind eye to illicit transactions, benefiting from the substantial fees charged on cryptocurrency trades.

Even though North Korea’s cyberattack capabilities are well-documented, there is growing concern among cybersecurity experts that cryptocurrency exchanges in developing countries lack the resources and governance structures needed to prevent exploitation. Without sufficient regulatory oversight, these exchanges become prime targets for criminal actors seeking to launder or move stolen cryptocurrency across borders.

The rise of decentralized finance platforms has made this task even easier. DeFi operates on blockchain technology, allowing users to trade cryptocurrencies without the need for traditional intermediaries, such as banks or financial institutions. While this has many legitimate uses, it also opens a pathway for cybercriminals to move stolen funds anonymously. This environment of financial opacity has become a crucial part of North Korea’s ability to evade international scrutiny.

As North Korea adapts to this new financial reality, reports indicate that the country’s leaders are fostering closer relationships with other rogue states and criminal syndicates that are equally interested in using digital currencies to bypass international sanctions. In some cases, these connections are said to involve joint ventures in mining or the laundering of illicit cryptocurrency.

It is not just exchanges that are under scrutiny. Many nations continue to struggle with implementing effective anti-money laundering and know-your-customer regulations, which would require crypto platforms to identify their users and track large transactions. Some countries have made strides in tightening their regulations, but enforcement remains patchy, and criminals continue to exploit these regulatory loopholes.

Even nations with more robust cryptocurrency regulations have found it difficult to keep up with the speed of innovation in the sector. A significant challenge is the fast-evolving nature of blockchain technology, which has given rise to a myriad of platforms and exchanges that operate outside the scope of traditional financial systems. Some experts argue that the global financial system is not adequately prepared to deal with these challenges, particularly when it comes to cybercrime linked to North Korea.

In response to these growing concerns, international coalitions are increasing efforts to combat cryptocurrency crime. This has included greater cooperation among cybersecurity agencies, such as the FBI and Interpol, to track the movements of illicit cryptocurrency. Despite these efforts, the decentralized nature of digital currencies makes it difficult for authorities to trace and seize assets linked to North Korea’s operations.

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai FBS, a prominent global trading company, has suspended its operations in India, citing increasing regulatory challenges. BitBridge has announced plans to begin acquiring Bitcoin for its balance sheet, with the intention of going public by the end of the third quarter of 2025. The company, which is positioning itself as a key player in the cryptocurrency sector, aims to tap into the growing demand for digital assets by developing an ecosystem centred around Bitcoin. This will include offering BTC-backed loans, potentially reshaping the landscape of crypto-finance.

The company’s move to purchase Bitcoin signals a strategic shift towards greater exposure to digital currencies and aligns with the broader trend of institutional investment in crypto assets. With the recent volatility in the cryptocurrency market, BitBridge is positioning itself to capitalise on the emerging financial opportunities in the blockchain space.

Going public under the ticker symbol #BTTL, BitBridge will offer investors the chance to access a growing market for Bitcoin-backed services and investment vehicles. The decision to acquire Bitcoin directly for its balance sheet highlights a growing trend among crypto-focused firms to integrate the asset into their operations as a long-term investment and financial instrument. This development also mirrors actions taken by large corporations, including payment giants like Tesla, which have previously added Bitcoin to their balance sheets.

Alongside the balance sheet expansion, BitBridge is laying the groundwork for an innovative platform that will offer Bitcoin-backed loans. This new service aims to provide an alternative to traditional lending, leveraging the liquidity of Bitcoin to offer credit solutions for crypto holders. These loans, secured by Bitcoin, could appeal to both individual and institutional clients who may be looking to unlock value from their holdings without selling their digital assets.

The potential for Bitcoin-backed loans to disrupt traditional lending models has garnered attention from experts in the fintech space. By collateralising loans with Bitcoin, borrowers can access liquidity while retaining ownership of their crypto assets. This could prove especially attractive in an environment where cryptocurrency adoption is growing, and more individuals are seeking ways to integrate their holdings into the broader financial system.

One of the critical aspects of BitBridge’s strategy will be its approach to regulatory compliance. As governments around the world begin to refine their stance on cryptocurrency, BitBridge’s ability to navigate the regulatory landscape will be crucial for its success. The company’s move to offer Bitcoin-backed loans will likely draw increased scrutiny from financial regulators, especially as concerns grow over the potential risks associated with crypto-backed lending.

BitBridge is also positioning itself within a competitive space, with several established players already offering similar services. However, the company’s focus on Bitcoin as a core asset distinguishes it from others in the market, potentially allowing it to tap into a niche but growing sector of the cryptocurrency market.

In addition to its focus on Bitcoin, BitBridge has emphasised the importance of security and transparency in its operations. As the crypto ecosystem continues to evolve, concerns about cybersecurity and the protection of assets remain top priorities for both investors and users. BitBridge’s commitment to building a secure and transparent platform is likely to play a significant role in attracting users who are wary of the risks associated with the crypto space.
