Bahrain-based alternative investment firm Investcorp has agreed to sell its majority stake in the European fintech firm Shine to cloud-software group Cegid, marking the end of an eight-year partnership. The deal will be executed via Investcorp Technology Partners and comes nearly a decade after Investcorp first backed the Danish fintech, then known as Ageras. Financial terms remain undisclosed, and the sale awaits customary regulatory clearances.

Shine, headquartered in Copenhagen, operates across multiple European markets including France, the DACH region, the Netherlands and Denmark. The platform provides a broad suite of services for small and medium-sized businesses — covering business formation, digital banking, invoicing, accounting, and payroll. Under Investcorp’s stewardship, it expanded its reach and grew recurring revenues more than ten-fold, while completing nine acquisitions in its core regions.

Cegid — majority-owned by private equity firm Silver Lake — aims to integrate Shine into its Small Business division, positioning the combined entity as a pan-European “financial copilot” for SMEs and accountants. The merged platform is being designed to offer a unified, cloud-native, AI-driven ecosystem combining e-invoicing, accounting, business banking, payments, payroll, HR and tax compliance. The target user base across Europe is estimated at over one million SMBs and 15,000 accounting professionals.

Reflecting on the sale, Investcorp’s Head of Technology Partners and Chairman of Shine, Gilbert Kamieniecky, said the firm is proud of having supported Shine’s evolution “from a start-up with only a few million in revenue into a European leader and unicorn.” Shine’s co-founders, Rico Andersen and Martin Hegelund, expressed optimism about the next phase under Cegid, emphasising their ambition to deliver more advanced, scalable financial infrastructure to businesses across Europe.

For Cegid, adding Shine strengthens its footprint across key European markets and significantly boosts its SMB customer base, offering opportunities to deploy embedded finance solutions and streamline compliance workflows ahead of evolving e-invoicing and digital reporting mandates across the continent. The integration of Shine’s scalable technology stack with Cegid’s existing cloud and AI infrastructure underscores a strategic bet on digital transformation in SME finance and accounting.

India has initiated formal negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, signalling a strategic shift in trade dynamics aimed at expanding commercial engagement beyond traditional markets. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced in New Delhi that talks with the five-member bloc—comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan—will begin with negotiations unfolding in the capital this week. The move marks the culmination of the Terms of Reference signed by India and the EAEU in Moscow on 20 August 2025, which laid out an 18-month roadmap for an agreement in goods and potentially services and investment.

Officials from India’s commerce ministry, including Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, have held preparatory talks in Moscow with EAEU trade officials and representatives of Russian industry to review the roadmap and coordinate next steps. The discussions focused on reinforcing supply-chain resilience, regulatory predictability and balanced growth, with long-term ambitions including an objective to reach USD 100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.

India’s pivot towards the EAEU reflects a broader strategy to diversify export markets, particularly as trade relations with some Western economies become more uncertain amid shifting tariffs and sanctions regimes. The EAEU spans economies that collectively represent a significant regional market; access to these markets is expected to bolster opportunities for Indian exporters.

Key beneficiaries are expected to include micro, small and medium enterprises, agricultural producers such as farmers and fishermen, and sectors seeking broader market reach. The ToR signed in August emphasised support for these groups, intending to open new avenues for exporters who often face high barriers to entry in traditional trade corridors.

Analysts note that an India–EAEU FTA, if successfully concluded, could reshape trade flows for certain goods. Lower import duties and smoother customs regimes could make exports of textiles, agricultural produce, and processed goods more competitive. Simultaneously, Indian consumers and industries might gain access to competitively priced raw materials, machinery, and intermediate goods from EAEU nations, potentially easing input costs for domestic manufacturing.

Despite the promise, several challenges lie ahead. Disparate regulatory standards across EAEU countries, infrastructure bottlenecks, and logistical complexities could complicate the implementation of tariff liberalisation and non-tariff measures. Observers caution that negotiating consensus among five different economies will entail difficult compromises, especially on sensitive sectors such as agriculture or regulated commodities.

Luxury housing continues to dominate the residential real estate market across India’s major cities, with luxury and ultra-luxury segments driving a marked rise in overall transaction value even as unit sales taper. Data from a leading national consultancy shows that although the number of homes sold in the top seven cities dropped by 9 percent year-on-year in Q3 2025, the total value of transactions surged 14 percent. That divergence underscores how costlier, higher-end homes are reshaping demand dynamics.

Results from the period reveal average residential prices across these cities climbed by 9 percent to roughly ₹9,105 per square foot, compared with ₹8,390 per square foot a year earlier. Among the seven-city group, the region surrounding the national capital registered the steepest price rise at 24 percent, followed by the technology hub city which posted a 10 percent increase.

The shift towards premium properties appears structural rather than cyclical. In the financial year 2025, approximately 4.22 lakh residences were sold across the top cities, with aggregate sales value reaching ₹5.59 lakh crore. Developers and analysts foresee FY26 sales value climbing to around ₹6.65 lakh crore, representing nearly a 20 percent increase over the previous year — even if volume growth remains constrained.

Market segmentation by price reveals where the momentum lies. Homes priced in the luxury and ultra-luxury bracket accounted for the largest share of new supply in Q2 2025 at 27 percent, signalling a deliberate tilt by developers toward high-end inventory. This contrasts sharply with affordable housing, which is witnessing comparatively modest demand and shrinking market share.

Affordability pressures and shifting buyer preferences explain part of this trend. Slower demand for lower-cost units has pushed developers to prioritise mid-income to luxury segments, where margins remain attractive and buyers appear increasingly willing — and able — to pay a premium for space, amenities and perceived investment value.

Regional markets display distinct characteristics. The national capital region stands out for highest price gains, reflecting sustained demand from corporate professionals drawn to well-located urban residences. The technology-driven city registers steady growth, supported by IT professionals and expatriate buyers seeking quality housing. The metropolitan coastal region remains the nation’s most expensive housing market, with baseline prices significantly above the national average — a reflection of limited land availability, redevelopment activity and interest from non-resident buyers.

Bahrain has lowered the minimum real estate investment needed to secure its 10-year Golden Residency visa from BD 200,000 to BD 130,000. The adjustment by the Ministry of Interior’s Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs is expected to boost interest in premium properties and make the residency scheme more accessible to a wider group of investors.

Under the revised threshold, people purchasing property worth at least BD 130,000 now qualify for long-term residence. Previously this benefit was available only to those investing BD 200,000 or more. The Golden Residency programme — launched in 2022 — offers a 10-year renewable permit that allows holders to work, sponsor family members, and enter and exit the kingdom freely. Those migrating under the scheme need not tie their status to an employer or lock in property ownership permanently.

The change may prove timely given growing competition in Gulf real-estate markets. Experts point out that the lower entry cost could reshape demand patterns, especially among mid-to-high net-worth expatriates seeking a base in the Gulf without committing the higher investment required by rival regional programmes. Real estate brokers report a noticeable uptick in enquiries from foreign nationals since the announcement — many exploring apartments and villas that now meet the updated investment threshold.

The authorities emphasised that despite the relaxed investment criteria, the high standards of the Golden Residency system remain intact. Investors must meet all documentation and qualification processes managed by the Ministry of Interior. Other pathways to qualify — including employment of a certain tenure and salary, retirement income or official recognition of exceptional talents — remain unaffected.

For property developers and brokers, the revised threshold may translate into renewed velocity in Bahrain’s high-end property segment. Several luxury residential projects are now being re-marketed, stressing that units previously deemed beyond reach now fall within qualification range. This could lead to increased sales volume, stronger investor inflows, and potentially an uptick in real-estate pricing.

Gulf-region expatriates assessing residency options have long compared the Kingdom’s Golden Residency with similar visas in neighbouring states. The reduced investment bar adds appeal to Bahrain’s model — with its combination of long-term residency, flexibility of employment, opportunity for family sponsorship and comparatively modest financial commitment.

Stablecoins have moved from the fringe of digital finance to the centre of American geopolitical strategy with astonishing speed. Moscow has moved to ease restrictions on investments tied to digital assets by announcing that major fund managers will be permitted to purchase derivatives linked to cryptocurrencies from early next year. Under this policy shift, the Bank of Russia plans to amend regulations in the first quarter of the upcoming year to allow capital-management firms, previously barred, to engage in futures and options referencing digital currencies.

The initiative marks a departure from earlier policy built around tightly defined access for “specially qualified” investors under a three-year pilot programme unveiled in March, which required individuals to hold over 100 million rubles in securities or earn above 50 million rubles annually. Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov confirmed the government is also considering scrapping the “superqual” status entirely, a label proposed for crypto-investors under previous drafts.

The timing aligns with a broader regulatory realignment in which Moscow is both cautioning on crypto risks and expanding permissible use-cases. Earlier this year the central bank issued guidance emphasising that direct cryptocurrency holdings carry significant risk even as it proposed a stepped investment regime for qualified entities. Meanwhile legislators had sanctioned the use of crypto-assets for certain cross-border payments and legalised mining operations in July of last year.

Significant players in the Russian financial sector are already positioning themselves for the shift. Sberbank, the country’s largest lender by assets, reported it had raised 1.3 billion rubles through crypto derivative offerings in recent months and signalled plans to expand the business line further.

Market watchers interpret the regulatory loosening as part of a dual strategy: fostering new sources of capital amid constraints from sanctions, while maintaining supervisory controls on the evolving digital-asset ecosystem. “Allowing derivatives tied to cryptocurrencies is a big step—Russian funds were previously excluded,” said one analyst at a Moscow-based brokerage. At the same time, the analyst warned that “the oversight framework remains immature and the risks of liquidity, valuation and sanctions remain.”

Critics caution that letting traditional investment firms access crypto-linked instruments could raise systemic vulnerabilities. The European Union has recently targeted stablecoin-linked Russian entities under sanctions, and anti-money-laundering regulators flagged the region as high-risk, particularly in flows tied to offshore crypto trading.

Regulators in Moscow underline that the institutional gateway is intended to provide a controlled environment. The Bank of Russia’s earlier proposal for an experimental legal regime limited participation to investors meeting strict asset or income thresholds and required intermediaries to ensure transparency of transactions. It did not allow cryptocurrencies to be used as payment for goods and services.

As the investment window broadens, industry participants expect asset management firms to bring structured products to market, linking outcomes to benchmark crypto indices rather than direct holdings of tokens. “Derivatives give firms a means to hedge and gain exposure without custody of coins,” noted a fund-manager in Moscow. However, he added that regulatory clarity on taxation, disclosure, and cross-border transfers is still lacking.

The government’s removal of the “superqual” status could widen the investor base further, allowing mid-sized firms and high-net-worth individuals access to asset classes previously off-limits. This move may increase competition, as offshore platforms draw new Russian clients frustrated by domestic restrictions.

At the same time, the expanded framework raises questions about how Russia’s risk-management infrastructure will evolve. The central bank has repeatedly warned that cryptocurrencies remain speculative and not backed by the state; ongoing amendments to legislation will need to address issues of market integrity, investor protection and sanctions compliance.
