Thunes has integrated Ripple’s infrastructure into its payments network, allowing Ripple–Thunes integration accelerates global payments with enhanced speed, transparency and cost-efficiency. Drawing on their existing 2020 alliance, the Singapore-based fintech firm and Ripple announced the deeper collaboration on 2 September 2025, aiming to transform cross-border transfers for businesses and financial institutions worldwide.

The integration embeds Ripple Payments into Thunes’s Direct Global Network, spanning 130 + countries and over 80 currencies. This union leverages Ripple’s global payout infrastructure—serving 90 + markets and covering more than 90 % of daily FX flows, with over US $70 billion processed—bringing real-time, cost-efficient, and transparent transactions to Thunes’s vast network.

Chloe Mayenobe, President and COO of Thunes, emphasised that the partnership bridges traditional finance and digital assets, enabling seamless, compliant cross-border payments at scale. She stressed the importance of real-time settlement and robust local integrations in scaling financial access globally. Fiona Murray, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific at Ripple, underscored how combining Thunes’s payment reach with Ripple’s digital asset infrastructure enhances speed, accessibility, and compliance.

This move extends Thunes’s capability to deliver payouts in local currencies in regions with limited banking access, particularly through its SmartX Treasury System. Ripple Payments is now integrated into SmartX, bolstering liquidity management and last-mile delivery in underbanked markets.

Analysis from BeInCrypto notes that this alignment enables faster settlement and improved compliance, especially where mobile wallets like GCash, M-Pesa, and WeChat Pay dominate. For enterprises, the collaboration promises efficient global transfers with lower friction. Crowdfund Insider adds that the partnership broadens payout reach while streamlining money movement across key markets.

Electronic Payments International confirms the integration into SmartX, reinforcing Thunes’s treasury capabilities and enhancing its services. CryptoBriefing highlights the joint effort to improve speed, transparency and compliance across Thunes’s global network by incorporating Ripple Payments.

This development reflects an industry shift: traditional payment networks increasingly adopt blockchain infrastructure to reduce costs and boost efficiency. Thunes, with its “Smart Superhighway” platform covering billions of mobile wallets, bank accounts, and cards, stands well-positioned to harness Ripple’s tools for expanding financial inclusion.

Thunes, founded in 2019 and headquartered in Singapore, already partners with PayPal, Uber, Grab, Paytm, and others, serving a global footprint that includes more than 3 billion accounts across 130 countries. The integration with Ripple strengthens its proposition to these and other clients seeking faster, more transparent cross-border transfers.

DP World will begin offering the “Atlas” service from Morocco to UK and North Europe, cutting export times for fruit and vegetable shipments by up to two days when operations commence in November 2025. The maritime corridor will link the Moroccan ports of Agadir and Casablanca with DP World’s London Gateway and Antwerp Gateway terminals via two dedicated vessels, offering a faster, more cost-effective, and lower-carbon alternative to over-the-road transport.

This new route is expected to transfer up to 150,000 tonnes of fresh produce annually from trucks to ships, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 250 kg CO₂ per tonne-kilometre—a decrease of around 70% compared with traditional road haulage.

By offering faster and smoother delivery, the “Atlas” service from Morocco to UK and North Europe provides a more reliable logistics option. It circumvents issues such as traffic congestion, border delays and instances of vandalism, which frequently compromise delicate produce like tomatoes and blueberries.

To support the service, DP World has rolled out a substantial investment in refrigerated and general-cargo containers: 1,250 new reefer units plus 1,000 40-foot high-cube and 750 20-foot dry containers. Customers will benefit from full end-to-end supply-chain visibility via the CARGOES digital platform.

According to DP World, Morocco currently exports more than 6.5 million metric tonnes of fruit and vegetables to Western Europe annually, with volumes rising at over 20% year-on-year—making improved logistics more urgent than ever.

DP World Europe’s managing director and chief executive, Rashid Abdulla, emphasised that the service’s pillars of reliability, fast transit and modern IT platform make it a viable alternative to trucking, delivering better-quality produce at lower cost and with markedly reduced emissions. Markus Rodatz, chief operating officer for Freight Europe at DP World, highlighted the company’s commitment to developing smarter, more sustainable and more resilient supply chains, noting the new route helps growers and retailers meet environmental targets.

China has issued a bold action plan to propel its electronic information manufacturing industry through 2025 and 2026, targeting sustained growth in industrial output, revenue, and technological capability as it seeks to strengthen its position in the global technology arena.

The plan, jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration for Market Regulation, sets forth a target of roughly 7 per cent average annual growth in industrial output across major segments—including computer, communications, and electronic equipment manufacturing. Revenue growth across related sub-sectors such as lithium batteries, photovoltaics and components is projected to exceed 5 per cent per annum.

Authorities further anticipate that by the close of 2026, the electronic information manufacturing category will retain its status as the largest among China’s 41 key industrial sectors in both revenue and export share. Ambitious local targets aim to elevate five provinces to over 1 trillion yuan in annual manufacturing revenues, with the server industry aiming to surpass 400 billion yuan.

Beyond output and revenue, the plan calls for accelerated equipment modernisation and the development of high-end, intelligent, and eco-friendly production lines. Central to this strategy is the creation of internationally competitive industry bases and specialised clusters serving smaller enterprises.

This industrial blueprint emerges amid broader national efforts to invigorate advanced manufacturing. In August, authorities unveiled new financial guidelines, integrating structural monetary instruments and “green channels” for critical technology firms, aimed at spurring innovation and easing access to capital for integrated circuits, industrial software, medical equipment and advanced materials. Concurrently, China continues to pursue consolidation within its semiconductor sector—though merger negotiations have encountered obstacles, reflecting legal, valuation and fragmentation challenges.

Observers note that China’s renewed emphasis on domestic capability complements longer-standing ambitions under industrial strategies such as “Made in China 2025”, which have driven progress in robotics, solar technology, electric vehicles and rail systems, yet left persistent weaknesses in semiconductors and aerospace.

The current two-year action plan appears to reinforce this trajectory by tying industrial upgrading to environmental standards and smart manufacturing. Provincial authorities are being pressed to deliver on revenue milestones, while the focus on intelligent and eco-friendly production signals an effort to align with global sustainability trends and elevate manufacturing sophistication.

This approach also reflects the government’s response to external pressure, including export controls and trade friction, by targeting resilience and self-sufficiency. By prioritising hubs and clusters, China aims to decentralise innovation and drive inclusive industrial progress across regions, not just within flagship firms or coastal areas.

The twin objectives of maintaining international leadership and building more advanced, cleaner industrial capacity are central to this strategy. As China moves into the mid-2020s, its success will depend on execution—not just on paper targets, but on implementation, regional mobilisation, talent development, and the ability to absorb and apply new technologies at scale.

Northern Ireland stands to benefit significantly from growing economic and technological ties with India, as boosted trade, tariff relief, and joint research initiatives begin to materialise. A free-trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom promises a settlement that could deliver a multi-million-pound boost to Northern Ireland’s economy, particularly in advanced engineering, technology, and services. At the same time, enhanced academic and innovation partnerships are expanding the region’s opportunities.

Northern Ireland’s technology, services and manufacturing sectors are especially poised for growth under the new trade agreement, which includes substantial tariff reductions and near-elimination on key exports such as medical devices and engineering goods. Analysis shows that the deal is expected to generate around £50 million in economic benefit for the province. The agreement also unlocks access to India’s growing services market, opening new pathways for Northern Irish firms to scale internationally and enhance competitiveness.

Simultaneously, India and the UK have elevated their broader strategic engagement, having signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement on 24 July 2025. This landmark deal opened India’s government procurement market—worth £38 billion annually—to UK businesses for the first time, offering additional opportunities for Northern Ireland firms in technology, infrastructure and innovation services sectors. Negotiations had culminated in May 2025, after extensive rounds that resolved issues including visas, whisky, automobiles and pharmaceuticals.

Beyond trade, there is growing momentum in research collaboration. Imperial College London has launched a global science hub in Bengaluru, aiming to deepen its research alliances across AI, climate resilience, food security and antimicrobial resistance. Such initiatives highlight the intensifying India–UK scientific partnership, which Northern Ireland research institutions could tap into—particularly given the province’s established strengths in digital innovation and software engineering, with major global tech firms like Microsoft, Nvidia and SAP already present.

The launch of a joint India–Ireland Joint Economic Commission, as agreed by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Irish counterparts, further sets the stage for elevated economic and tech engagement involving Northern Ireland. The commission aims to enhance trade, investment and technology linkages; discussions have also included cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, fintech, semiconductors and higher education cooperation. Moreover, a new Indian consulate in Belfast reflects deepening diplomatic and commercial engagement with the region.

Northern Ireland benefits not only economically but also in innovation ecosystems. The UK–India Technology and Security Initiative, launched in July 2024, emphasises strategic collaboration across seven core areas including semiconductors, AI, quantum, biotech and advanced materials. The initiative is being overseen and reviewed by senior officials from both nations, reinforcing a structured framework for bilateral tech partnerships and supply-chain resilience; Northern Irish tech organisations with capabilities in cybersecurity, data analytics and smart infrastructure are well-positioned to participate.

These developments dovetail with the broader UK-wide free-trade agenda and strategic dialogues. India is the United Kingdom’s fastest-growing trade partner, with goods trade up to £17.8 billion in 2024 and services trade exceeding £24 billion—both substantial increases from pre-pandemic levels. Yet, awareness among UK firms, including in Northern Ireland, remains low, with only a small fraction actively exporting to India, despite high willingness among Indian consumers to pay premiums for UK products. Areas such as advanced engineering, manufacturing, and innovation services remain ripe for expansion.

Northern Ireland’s existing attributes further reinforce its readiness. The region hosts a cluster of world-class tech operations, supported by local firms such as Kainos and FD Technologies, and connectivity to universities and innovation centres. Access to India’s large and diverse markets—combined with policy support under the free-trade agreement—sets the scene for emerging partnerships in fintech, med-tech, smart infrastructure, and green technologies.

Finally, though not specific to Northern Ireland, institutions such as the UK India Business Council provide advisory networks and policy advocacy that can help local businesses navigate market entry, regulatory frameworks, and collaboration models with Indian partners across sectors including digital innovation, life sciences and advanced manufacturing.

BitMine Immersion Technologies now controls nearly 1.87 million ETH, equivalent to about 1.55 per cent of total Ether supply, along with substantial cryptocurrency and cash reserves. The Las Vegas‑based miner‑turned‑treasury manager has emerged as the largest corporate holder of Ether globally, with holdings valued at close to $9 billion. The firm’s robust position underscores its aggressive strategy in digital‑asset accumulation amid growing institutional interest in Ethereum.

The surge in holdings is underpinned by a flurry of recent purchases, including an addition of approximately 153,000 ETH—a $656 million acquisition—bringing the total to about 1.867 million ETH, valued above $8 billion at current market rates. Such moves position BitMine well on its strategic pathway toward aiming for 5 per cent of total Ether supply. The Ethereum holdings are complemented by 192 Bitcoin and roughly $635 million in unencumbered cash, contributing to a combined crypto plus cash asset base nearing $9 billion. BitMine now stands as the foremost Ethereum treasury company, and ranks second among global crypto treasuries—behind Strategy Inc., which holds significantly larger Bitcoin reserves.

BitMine’s assertive accumulation follows its ETH treasury launch in late June and has accelerated through August and early September. Institutional confidence appears to have grown in step, evidenced by continued investment from ARK Invest, whose latest injection exceeded $15 million, raising total backing above $300 million.

Chairman Tom Lee casts the company’s strategy in historical perspective, likening Ethereum’s ascendant role to financial innovation following the United States’ departure from the gold standard in 1971. He described Ether’s trajectory as a “supercycle”, with emerging regulatory frameworks such as SEC Project Crypto and the GENIUS Act unlocking transformative potential for blockchain finance.

The market response has mirrored BitMine’s bullish posture. Its stock price has jumped nearly 41 per cent over the last month, trading in the mid‑$40 range at the time of the announcement, and showing intraday gains of over 1 per cent.

BitMine’s ascent is emblematic of a broader shift among corporates toward Ethereum as a treasury asset. Firms like SharpLink Gaming, Bit Digital, GameSquare, and The Ether Machine are following suit, each holding significant ETH reserves—some exceeding $100 million. Collectively, institutional ETH treasuries now represent an ecosystem worth billions, with BitMine firmly at the forefront.

That growing interest is tied to Ethereum’s technical strength: its native support for staking, smart contracts, stablecoins, and NFTs. These features enable yield generation and diversified application, attracting corporate treasurers seeking productive digital assets. As the co‑founder of Figment observed, staking is emerging as “the centre of global banking for digital assets,” while ETH’s productive capacity makes it a strategic asset rather than speculative holding.

Still, the aggressive accumulation navigates potential risks. Scale offers liquidity and negotiating leverage, but also exposure to market volatility and custodial challenges in event of operational failures. Security lapses or market shocks could carry amplified consequences given the size of holdings.
