SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 16 April 2026 – EduCareerSG has enhanced its Experiential Career Accelerator (ECA) programme through the integration of AI-enabled monitoring and support tools designed to strengthen trainees’ emotional readiness as they transition into the workforce.

The integration reflects EduCareerSG’s long-held belief that emotional management is not separate from employability, but a critical component of it. By embedding AI capabilities into its existing systems and modules, EduCareerSG is able to detect potential stress signals earlier, enabling faster intervention and more personalised support from its human welfare team.

“Technical skills and qualifications may get someone through the door, but emotional management determines whether they stay, grow, and cope when things get difficult,” said Mike Teo, Founder of EduCareerSG. “We have seen trainees who are capable on paper, but overwhelmed in practice. By integrating AI into our system, we are able to spot early warning signs and intervene sooner. Career readiness isn’t just about competence, it’s about resilience.”

Through structured weekly check-ins and ongoing engagement within the ECA ecosystem, the system helps surface early signs of workplace stress, adjustment challenges, or emotional strain commonly faced by young people entering live work environments. When potential concerns are identified, alerts are routed to EduCareerSG’s welfare team, where trained staff step in to provide direct guidance and counselling support.

Importantly, the AI functions as an assistive layer rather than a replacement for human oversight. The organisation maintains a human-first approach, with welfare officers taking over whenever emotional risk indicators arise.

The enhancement comes at a time when employers increasingly expect “day-one productivity”, while many young workers struggle with the emotional realities of adapting from classroom settings to workplace environments.

Recent Singapore reports have highlighted rising stress levels among employees and early-career professionals, alongside broader conversations around resilience and sustainable employability. Against this backdrop, EduCareerSG’s approach seeks to address not only skills gaps, but the emotional preparedness required to sustain performance in real-world settings.

Initially implemented within EduCareerSG’s ECA trainees in Singapore, the enhanced system forms part of a broader roadmap to continually upgrade the organisation’s training, welfare, and productivity frameworks. EduCareerSG will review performance and feedback over the coming months before assessing potential regional expansion.

By combining sponsored academic pathways, structured workplace immersion, and technology-enabled emotional support, EduCareerSG continues to refine a holistic workforce preparation model, one that recognises productivity, wellbeing, and long-term employability as interconnected pillars of success.

Singapore leads the region in maturity but faces critical scaling bottlenecks.

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 15 April 2026 – ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), one of the world’s fastest-growing data centre colocation service providers headquartered in Singapore, today announced the findings of a new regional research study, Mind the Gap: Bridging the AI Infrastructure Readiness Divide, examining how organisations across Asia are progressing from AI ambition to execution. Commissioned by STT GDC with research partner Ecosystm, the study surveyed more than 600 enterprise and digital-native leaders across nine Asian markets: India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

High adoption, limited readiness across Asia

The report reveals that AI ambition across Asia is high, with nearly 90% of organisations having embarked on their AI journeys. However, a significant 71% remain in the “Builder” stage of maturity, where initial AI pilots struggle to scale into production environments capable of delivering consistent and measurable return on investment (ROI). In contrast, only 17% of organisations are considered “future ready”, having invested in scalable infrastructure, mature data governance and specialised operational expertise, highlighting a widening readiness gap across the region.

Challenges faced by the Builders

Across Asia, the research identifies a reinforcing cycle that keeps many organisations stuck in pilot mode. AI initiatives are often launched on infrastructure that cannot scale to production, limiting their ability to demonstrate measurable ROI and making it harder to justify further investment in purpose-built, high-density environments. This challenge is compounded by gaps in in-house expertise, with many organisations lacking the specialist operational skills required to manage increasingly complex AI infrastructure at scale.

“Across Asia, organisations are moving quickly from experimentation to implementation, but many are discovering that AI success now depends less on training models and more on foundations,” said Chris Street, Group Chief Revenue Officer of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres. “Without scalable infrastructure and operational readiness in place, it becomes difficult to convert early AI ambition into consistent business value.”

The Sustainability Blind Spot

Despite rising energy and cooling demands driven by AI workloads, sustainability considerations remain secondary for most organisations when evaluating infrastructure options. Although 27% of organisations say ESG goals will actively shape or be central to their future plans, 64% of organisations across Asia continue to prioritise performance or cost, even as power density, thermal efficiency and long‑term total cost of ownership become increasingly critical factors in scaling AI responsibly.

A disconnect between what organisations want and what they need

The study also highlights a persistent disconnect between how organisations evaluate infrastructure partners and the capabilities they actually need to scale AI. Across Asia, organisations continue to prioritise baseline requirements like security and reliability, despite identifying operational expertise, scalability and cost efficiency as their most significant challenges.

Singapore: ahead of the region, but facing a new constraint

These challenges are visible across the region, but they manifest differently in more mature markets. Singapore stands out against the regional baseline with a significantly larger share of organisations having progressed beyond early-stage pilots. While only 17% of organisations across Asia are considered future‑ready, 40% of Singapore organisations have reached the Integrator stage, reflecting stronger early execution and deployment capability.

However, the study also finds that the final step to leadership remains the most difficult. Only 3% of Singapore organisations have reached the “Leader” stage of AI infrastructure maturity, signalling that even in Asia’s most mature AI market, the transition from integration to full leadership remains difficult.

Scaling, not adoption, is now the key challenge

In Singapore, where adoption is more advanced, the constraints have shifted. Limited infrastructure headroom, shortages in specialised operational expertise and continued investment discipline are now emerging as the primary barriers to scaling AI workloads and sustaining leadership.

“For Singapore, AI adoption is relatively mature; the defining challenge now is scaling deployments fast enough to support real‑world demand,” said Mingcheng Lim, Country Head – Singapore, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres. “Whether the country can maintain its lead in the region will depend on whether infrastructure capacity, specialist expertise and investment approaches can evolve at the same pace as AI workloads.”

Sustainability awareness has yet to shape infrastructure choices

In Singapore, regulatory expectations have driven relatively high awareness of sustainability issues. However, sustainability continues to rank among the lowest priorities when organisations evaluate infrastructure providers, highlighting a gap between awareness and action, even as power density, thermal efficiency and long‑term cost efficiency become increasingly important to scaling AI responsibly.

The mismatch between wants and needs persists

As with the wider region, Singapore organisations continue to evaluate infrastructure providers based on familiar baseline criteria, even as their scaling challenges point to a growing need for specialist expertise, speed to scale and sustainable, high‑density infrastructure capability.

These findings suggest that Asia’s next phase of AI progress will be defined not by ambition alone, but by execution capability. For Singapore, sustaining regional leadership will depend on infrastructure strategies that support scale, resilience and speed, enabling organisations to convert early AI momentum into enduring competitive advantage.

Reserve Bank officials have opened discussions with commercial lenders on how to attract larger and more stable deposits, as the banking system grapples with a widening mismatch between loan growth and deposit mobilisation. The push comes as households channel a bigger share of savings into equities and mutual funds, leaving banks under pressure to compete harder for retail money and rely more on costlier wholesale funding.

The backdrop is a funding strain that has become harder for lenders to ignore. Data cited in market reports show credit growth has continued to outpace deposit growth, with loans rising 14.5% year on year as of late February against deposit growth of 11.9%. By mid-March, the system credit-deposit ratio had climbed above 83%, a level analysts describe as historically stretched, underscoring how aggressively banks have had to deploy funds to sustain lending across retail, corporate and small business segments.

That imbalance is feeding directly into banks’ funding costs. Lenders have increasingly turned to certificates of deposit, a short-term market instrument used to raise money from institutional investors, because traditional deposit inflows have not kept pace with credit demand. Reuters reported that outstanding certificates of deposit had risen to a record 6.64 trillion rupees by February 28, while the premium banks were paying over comparable treasury bill yields had widened to levels last seen during the Covid-era funding stress of 2020.

Senior bankers have acknowledged the pressure. Indian Bank managing director and chief executive Binod Kumar told Reuters that some lenders had already raised fixed deposit rates, but that strong credit growth meant funding pressure was likely to persist. That suggests the central bank’s consultations are not merely precautionary; they reflect a structural concern inside the financial system over the quality and stability of bank liabilities, especially at a time when competition for household savings is no longer confined to rival banks.

A key reason lies outside the banking sector. The Economic Survey for 2025-26 said the share of equity and mutual funds in annual household financial savings had risen from about 2% in FY12 to more than 15.2% in FY25, a sharp reallocation that captures how retail investors are moving towards market-linked products. The same survey said individual investors’ share in equity ownership had reached 18.8% by September 2025, while household equity wealth had expanded by about 53 lakh crore rupees between April 2020 and September 2025.

That shift has continued into this year. Reuters reported that inflows into equity mutual funds rose 56% in March to 404.5 billion rupees, the highest in eight months, while monthly SIP contributions climbed to a record near 321 billion rupees. Data published by the Association of Mutual Funds in India separately showed total SIP collections of 32,087 crore rupees in March. Together, those figures point to a household investor base that remains willing to keep allocating money to market instruments even during volatile trading conditions.

For banks, the result is a more expensive contest for deposits. Lenders have already been raising term deposit rates in pockets of the market, particularly where they need to defend margins or maintain funding for loan books growing faster than system averages. Yet higher deposit rates carry their own cost, squeezing net interest margins at a time when analysts are already warning that wholesale funding dependence and tighter liability conditions could drag on profitability.

The RBI is trying to contain the wider liquidity effects while keeping monetary transmission orderly. In its April monetary policy communication, the central bank said it wanted the weighted average call rate, its operative rate, to stay close to the 5.25% repo rate. It indicated that maintaining liquidity surplus in a range of 0.6% to 1.1% of deposits would help keep the spread between the call rate and the policy rate within 5 to 10 basis points. Banking system liquidity surplus has already risen above 4 trillion rupees this month, giving lenders some immediate relief even as the deeper deposit challenge remains unresolved.

Formula 1 could return to Greater Noida in 2027 if the government, circuit stakeholders and the sport’s commercial side can align on taxes, approvals and financing, after Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said work was under way to revive the race at the Buddh International Circuit. His remarks have revived expectations among motorsport followers, but the project remains at the stage of negotiations rather than confirmation.

Mandaviya said the government was trying to remove the tax obstacles that helped drive Formula 1 out after three editions between 2011 and 2013, and indicated that multiple companies had shown interest in backing a comeback. The minister’s comments suggested the state would act as a facilitator rather than the sole organiser, a crucial distinction for an event whose economics depend on promoter strength, sanction fees, logistics and long lead times. He also pointed to the Buddh International Circuit as the intended venue, restoring focus to a track that once hosted Sebastian Vettel’s dominant Red Bull era and briefly placed the country on Formula 1’s world calendar.

Yet the gap between political intent and a confirmed Grand Prix remains significant. Formula 1’s 2026 championship calendar is already full, running across 24 rounds with Madrid added and no India slot. Reporting on the sport’s response to the 2027 target indicates that while the market is viewed favourably, a race by that year is not considered likely at this stage because staging a Grand Prix requires complex planning and coordination. That makes the current push look more like an opening bid than a settled return date.

The tax issue is not a minor footnote but the central fault line in the story. Formula 1’s earlier spell at Buddh was overshadowed by disputes over whether the event qualified as sport or entertainment, and by arguments over customs duties and the tax treatment of revenues tied to the race. Reuters reported as far back as 2011 that teams were concerned about possible tax exposure, and by 2013 the Grand Prix had already fallen off the following year’s calendar amid mounting financial and bureaucratic strain. Mandaviya’s promise of tax relaxations is therefore a direct attempt to answer the problem that helped sink the event the first time.

Buddh itself remains the natural choice because it is the only proven Formula 1 venue in the country, but it is not simply a matter of reopening the gates. Any return would require circuit readiness, operational planning and the backing of a promoter capable of sustaining a high-cost international event. The minister said three companies had approached the government, and separate reports have suggested corporate interest around the circuit’s future, although no final transaction or race agreement has been announced. The absence of a named promoter with a signed commercial deal is one reason the 2027 target still looks aspirational.

There is also a broader question about whether the circuit can first rebuild confidence through other top-tier events. Mandaviya said a MotoGP race could be staged before Formula 1’s return, but the two-wheel championship’s own scheduling history at Buddh shows how hard that can be. MotoGP held its first race there in 2023, then postponed the 2024 event to 2025, later shifting the country’s return to 2026 under a fresh agreement with Uttar Pradesh. That record does not rule out Formula 1, but it does underline how major motorsport events in the market have struggled with continuity.

Even so, the commercial logic behind the revival effort is clear. Formula 1 has been expanding in markets that offer strong broadcast audiences, sponsor interest and long-term fan growth, and the country remains attractive on all three counts. A youthful audience, a large digital sports market and the symbolic value of restoring a race near the capital region all strengthen the case. What the bid still lacks is the final layer that matters most in Formula 1: a binding agreement among the rights holder, a credible promoter, public authorities and a venue ready to meet the sport’s demands.

South Korea’s exports rose 36.7 per cent from a year earlier in the first 10 days of April, extending a powerful trade run driven by semiconductor demand and offering fresh evidence that the country’s technology cycle remains firmly supported by global spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. Outbound shipments reached $25.2 billion in the April 1-10 period, the highest ever recorded for the opening 10 days of a month, according to Korea Customs Service data carried by Yonhap on Monday.

The early-April figures reinforce a broader pattern already visible through the first quarter. South Korea, one of the world’s most closely watched export economies because of its central role in memory chips, displays and consumer electronics, has been benefiting from a steep recovery in semiconductor sales after a prolonged industry downturn. Reuters reported at the end of February that the country’s chip exports had jumped 160.9 per cent in that month alone, passing $20 billion for a third straight month as AI investment and stronger memory prices lifted demand.

Semiconductors were again the main engine in the latest 10-day release. Chip exports surged 152 per cent from a year earlier, underscoring how heavily South Korea’s trade performance is now tied to data-centre investment, high-bandwidth memory demand and the wider AI build-out led by large technology firms. That strength has helped offset a less even backdrop in other parts of the economy, where investment, household demand and external policy risks remain more mixed.

The export rebound matters well beyond monthly trade headlines. South Korea’s central bank raised its 2026 growth forecast to 2.0 per cent in February and signalled that a chip-led upswing was giving policymakers more room to hold interest rates steady while watching inflation and financial stability risks. Reuters also reported this month that central bank officials see strong semiconductor exports and an extra budget as factors easing downward pressure on growth, even as won weakness and higher energy costs complicate the inflation outlook.

Factory data has pointed in the same direction. A Reuters report on S&P Global survey findings showed South Korea’s manufacturing activity expanded in January at the fastest pace in nearly a year and a half, helped by stronger export orders from China, North America and Europe. Manufacturers reported improving optimism as orders strengthened in sectors such as autos and semiconductors, indicating that the recovery is not only statistical but also visible in production and order books.

Still, the trade picture is not free of risk. South Korea remains highly exposed to swings in global demand, to US trade policy and to supply disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East. Reuters polling before the March trade data showed imports rising sharply as higher oil prices pushed up the energy bill, even while exports surged on semiconductor strength. That combination can support headline trade values, but it also leaves the economy vulnerable to a renewed squeeze from commodity inflation and currency volatility.

Another uncertainty lies in concentration. The same chip boom that is lifting exports also raises dependence on a narrow cluster of products and companies. South Korea’s trade resilience is being powered largely by memory and advanced semiconductor demand, especially products linked to AI servers. Investment plans such as SK Hynix’s announcement in February of 21.6 trillion won in new facilities show confidence in long-term demand, but they also underline how central the semiconductor cycle has become to the country’s broader growth model.

For now, the momentum remains hard to ignore. Reuters polling ahead of the March data had already pointed to the fastest export growth in nearly five years, with shipments to the United States and China both showing strong gains alongside the semiconductor surge. Monday’s early-April figures suggest that pace has carried into the second quarter, strengthening the case that South Korea’s exporters are entering another period of outsized performance after a weak stretch in 2025.

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai Global bond markets fell on Monday as the collapse of US-Iran peace talks shifted investor attention away from hopes of de-escalation and back towards a harsher inflation outlook, with oil above $100 a barrel reinforcing bets that central banks will keep borrowing costs elevated for longer. Government bond yields moved higher across major markets as traders reassessed how persistent energy-driven price pressure could […]

Asian buyers of liquefied petroleum gas are stepping up purchases from the United States and other Atlantic Basin suppliers as disrupted Gulf shipments upend one of the region’s most important fuel trades. India and China, the two biggest Asian importers of Middle East LPG, are at the centre of the shift, with traders, analysts and shipbrokers saying the scramble for replacement cargoes has pushed spot premiums to unprecedented levels and forced governments and industry to rethink supply security.

The immediate trigger has been the collapse in exports from the Gulf after the outbreak of war in late February and the severe disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Middle Eastern LPG exports fell 73% in March from the previous month to 419,000 barrels per day, according to Kpler data cited by Reuters. The squeeze sent April-loading spot premiums for propane and butane from the Gulf to record highs of $250 a tonne over March Saudi contract price swaps, while Saudi Aramco lifted its April official selling price for propane by $205 a tonne to $750 and for butane by $260 a tonne to $800.

That shock is now reshaping trade flows. Preliminary Kpler data show U. S. LPG exports are expected to rise to a record 2.7 million barrels per day in April, with about 1.8 million barrels per day heading to Asia, up 14% from March. Traders say cargoes are also being drawn from Canada, Norway, Argentina and Australia, but the United States has emerged as the principal swing supplier because of its sheer export scale. Marex’s Vasudev Balagopal told Reuters that major importers were actively diversifying beyond the Gulf, although brokers caution that U. S. export terminals were already running close to capacity before the conflict and cannot fully replace Middle East barrels on their own.

The substitution is costly and slow. U. S. Gulf terminal fees for propane and butane hit record levels in March, and cargoes from the Gulf Coast to Asia typically take more than 30 days to arrive, compared with roughly two weeks from the Middle East. Even where a ceasefire has allowed some movement through Hormuz, traders are treating the route as fragile and unpredictable. Reuters reported on April 11 that some tankers had begun exiting the Gulf after a truce, but hundreds of vessels remained stranded or delayed, underlining how quickly physical dislocation can outlast any diplomatic pause.

India’s position illustrates the strain most clearly. The country consumed 33.15 million metric tonnes of LPG last year, with imports covering about 60% of demand and roughly 90% of those imports sourced from the Middle East. State-backed retailers have kept prices for 14.2-kg domestic cylinders unchanged to protect households, even as commercial LPG prices were raised in April and the government diverted supplies away from industry to shield cooking-gas consumers. Reuters also reported that India increased domestic daily LPG output by 40% to 50,000 tonnes and secured 800,000 tonnes of replacement cargoes from the United States, Russia, Australia and elsewhere.

Officials in New Delhi are also using the shortage to accelerate a structural shift towards piped gas. Emergency powers have been invoked to direct limited LPG toward households, while expansion of city gas networks has been fast-tracked. India added 580,000 new household piped-gas connections in March, up sharply from a year earlier, and credit-rating agency ICRA estimates the policy push could cut LPG imports by 10% to 15% by 2030. The fiscal logic is clear: household LPG is sold at deeply subsidised rates, while piped gas is priced closer to the market, easing pressure on public finances as well as on import dependence.

China faces a different kind of pressure. There, LPG is not only a cooking fuel but also a crucial petrochemical feedstock. Rystad Energy estimates regional steam crackers lost about 135,000 barrels per day of LPG demand in March from February levels, with further declines expected in April and May. In China, propane dehydrogenation plants, already running at only 60% to 65% because of weak margins before the conflict, are expected to cut operating rates again as feedstock shortages bite. That matters beyond the energy sector because PDH plants make propylene, a building block for plastics and a wide range of manufactured goods.

Reserve Bank officials have sharpened their criticism of banks and foreign-exchange market makers after volatile rupee trading during the Middle East crisis, arguing that arbitrage activity between onshore and offshore markets worsened pressure on the currency and distorted price discovery at a delicate moment for the economy. The intervention marks a tougher regulatory message from Mumbai as policymakers try to contain imported inflation risks, calm hedging costs and restore order to a market jolted by oil shocks and shifting geopolitical headlines.

The backdrop is a bruising spell for the rupee. The currency sank to record lows in March as conflict-linked fears over energy supplies drove oil prices higher and triggered capital outflows from domestic assets. That slide left the central bank confronting a familiar dilemma: allow the exchange rate to absorb the shock or step in more forcefully to curb disorderly moves in a country heavily exposed to imported crude. Reuters reported that the rupee hit a record low around mid-March before the Reserve Bank stepped up support measures as traders fretted over the growth and inflation fallout from elevated oil prices.

Against that backdrop, the central bank moved on March 27 to tighten rules around banks’ foreign-exchange exposure. It imposed a $100 million cap on net open dollar-rupee positions in the onshore market and restricted banks’ ability to deal in non-deliverable forwards, measures aimed at curbing arbitrage between local and offshore markets that officials believed had become destabilising. Governor Sanjay Malhotra has since said the steps were temporary rather than a long-term retreat from market development or rupee internationalisation, but the regulatory intent was clear: volatility linked to rapidly expanding positions would no longer be tolerated.

Bloomberg reported on Sunday that a senior Reserve Bank official criticised market makers for aggravating the rupee’s weakness during the Middle East tensions, reinforcing the view that policymakers see some trading strategies not merely as opportunistic but as harmful to market functioning. Bloomberg had earlier quoted Deputy Governor T. Rabi Sankar as saying the arbitrage build-up led to an “artificial drying up” of dollar supply in the market, affecting prices. That language is notable because it suggests the regulator believes the issue went beyond normal speculative behaviour into a form of distortion that reduced liquidity when it was needed most.

Market participants have broadly accepted that the positions were sizeable. Reuters, citing industry estimates and clearing data, said consensus had settled around roughly $40 billion of arbitrage exposure, much of it built across the onshore and non-deliverable forward markets. By early April, banks had exited the bulk of those trades ahead of the Reserve Bank’s April 10 deadline. Clearing house data pointed to around $36 billion in NDF trades between April 1 and April 7, seen largely as part of the unwind. That process helped support the rupee at points, but it also created other distortions, including sharp moves in forward premiums and strained hedging conditions for importers.

For companies exposed to foreign-currency liabilities, the clean-up has been costly. Reuters said one-year dollar hedging costs jumped sharply, at one point posting the steepest rise since the global financial crisis, as importers rushed to lock in cover and market liquidity thinned. That matters because the regulatory cure, while aimed at curbing speculative pressure, can tighten financing and risk-management conditions for genuine commercial users. It is one reason some dealers have privately argued that while the central bank was justified in tackling excessive positioning, abrupt curbs can deepen dislocations in a market that depends on continuous two-way activity.

Still, the Reserve Bank appears willing to accept short-term disruption in exchange for regaining control of the policy signal. The rupee rallied through parts of early April as arbitrage positions were unwound and a temporary US-Iran ceasefire drove oil lower, with the currency at one stage strengthening into the 92-93 range against the dollar. Yet that recovery proved fragile. On April 9, the rupee slipped again as doubts over the truce resurfaced, Brent crude rebounded and wider risk sentiment weakened. For policymakers, that sequence underscored how quickly external shocks can overwhelm domestic market plumbing if positioning is allowed to build unchecked.

Broader lessons are now emerging for the financial system. One is that India’s increasingly connected currency market, spanning domestic forwards, exchange-traded futures and offshore NDFs, can improve price discovery in calm conditions but amplify stress when geopolitical shocks hit. Another is that the Reserve Bank remains prepared to intervene not only through spot-market support but also through conduct-based regulation when it thinks market behaviour is aggravating weakness. That stance may temper speculative excess, but it also raises questions about how much freedom banks will have to intermediate risk in future episodes of volatility.
