SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 1 September 2026 – The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government hosted a reception and the Macao Economic, Trade, Tourism and Investment Promotion Seminar in Singapore on August 31, aiming to practically advance cooperation between Macao and Singapore across multiple official and non-governmental sectors. The event featured over 130 business matching sessions and witnessed the signing of more than 80 agreements, covering key areas such as high technology, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and big health, conventions and exhibitions (MICE), tourism, modern finance, and industry-academia-research collaboration.

Macao Economic, Trade and Tourism Investment Promotion Seminar Held in Singapore, Deepening Multi-Domain Cooperation to Empower Regional Growth

The event gathered over 350 distinguished guests, including Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the MSAR; Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Trade and Industry; representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Singapore; members of the MSAR Government delegation; delegates from the Macao-Hengqin and Mainland China economic, trade, and tourism delegation; as well as representatives from Singapore’s political, business, cultural, tourism, and trade association sectors.

Sam Hou Fai stated that last June, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong made a successful visit to China. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Wong jointly charted the course for the stable and healthy development of China-Singapore relations in this new phase. He noted that leading the delegation to Singapore this time is both a concrete action to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, and a key initiative for Macao to leverage its unique advantages, deepen and expand exchanges and cooperation with Singapore, and inject new momentum into China-Singapore relations.

This year marks the inaugural year of China’s “15th Five-Year Plan,” and to ensure seamless alignment and coordination, the Macao SAR Government recently promulgated the “Third Five-Year Development Plan for the Economic and Social Development of the Macao Special Administrative Region (2026-2030).” The key strategic deployments of the Plan focus on driving diversified economic development on a solid footing, with four major engineering projects and government-guided funds serving as the primary leverage, while deepening Macao-Hengqin integration to advance the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin. Furthermore, the Plan aims to accelerate urban renewal to build a beautiful and smart Macao, alongside actively participating in the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to position Macao as a vital bridgehead for the nation’s high-level opening-up and an essential window for mutual learning and exchanges between Chinese and Western civilizations. Concurrently, Macao will actively establish a convenient and highly efficient public service system, fostering a world-class, market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment to earnestly protect the legitimate rights and interests of all market entities and investors, thereby offering foreign investors a more attractive and reliable investment climate.

Gan Siow Huang remarked that Macao and Singapore have long maintained close and friendly relations, achieving fruitful cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, tourism, education, and cultural exchanges. Looking ahead, both sides can leverage their complementary strengths to further deepen cooperation in tourism and urban development, working together to seize new opportunities for regional development and economic growth.

Both Singapore and Macao have established internationally renowned tourism industries and destination brands, allowing the two regions to draw on each other’s experiences in crafting premium visitor experiences, developing integrated tourism products, and building vibrant, highly livable cities. Singapore looks forward to sharing practical experiences in tourism industry development with Macao and fostering productive partnerships between their respective business sectors. Furthermore, as enterprises in both regions value their domestic markets while increasingly casting their eyes on broader overseas opportunities, Singapore and Macao can serve as mutually trusted partners to bridge the markets of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Southeast Asia, supporting businesses from both sides in tapping into new opportunities and constructing robust cross-regional networks. At the same time, by pooling corporate strengths, both sides can carve out new avenues of growth in key economic sectors such as digitalization, innovation, sustainable development, and eldercare services.

OUTLOOK

Global geopolitical tensions remain high, and uncertainty persists regarding the pace of the external economic recovery. Meanwhile, the active expansion of mainland Chinese e-commerce platforms into Hong Kong has driven the popularity of cross-border online shopping, further intensifying competition in the local retail market. Amid complex and increasingly competitive market conditions, the overall business environment for the retail sector is expected to remain under pressure in the second half of 2026. However, as Hong Kong hosts a series of major international events and exhibitions as well as cultural and sports activities, the number of visitors to Hong Kong and their willingness to spend are steadily recovering. At the same time, consumption of daily necessities has demonstrated strong resilience. Market demand for value-for-money globally sourced food products and healthy snacks continues to grow, presenting the Group with solid development opportunities. Looking ahead, the Group remains cautiously optimistic about its business prospects. To address intense market competition, we are committed to refining operational management, optimizing business processes, and maintaining strict cost controls.

To further strengthen its connection with consumers, the Group officially launched a rebranding campaign in June 2026, adopting “Best Mart, Always a Friendly Buy” as its new core brand value and striving to build a more welcoming, youthful, vibrant and creative brand image. Regarding its store network management, the Group will balance strategic expansion with operational optimization. On one hand, the Group will capitalise on appropriate market opportunities and continue to expand its footprint through a “dual-brand” strategy featuring “Best Mart 360˚” and “FoodVille”, aiming to precisely meet the demand for high-quality food across different customer segments. On the other hand, the Group will adhere to strict capital-return discipline by actively negotiating with landlords for more flexible and reasonable lease terms, while regularly reviewing the operational efficiency of existing stores. Through these efforts, the Group aims to comprehensively enhance the overall profitability of its network and deepen its presence in the mass retail market.

Faced with a complex, ever-changing and highly competitive market environment, the Group is comprehensively exploring and researching the application of artificial intelligence in its business processes, aiming to enhance operational efficiency through innovative technology. The Group will further deepen its online-offline integration strategy, fully leverage the advantages provided by the extensive member database of its mobile app and implement targeted marketing through big data analysis to effectively increase member engagement and overall repeat purchase rates.

In terms of online channels, the Group will strengthen its collaboration with the foodpanda mall platform to ensure a seamless shopping experience. The Group will also remain agile in our operational strategies to optimize overall sales performance.

Guided by its core brand philosophy of “Best Quality” and “Best Price”, the Group will make every effort to expand its upstream supplier network while ramping up the development of its private label products. These initiatives will solidify our competitive pricing advantage while effectively meeting the market demand for daily necessities. The Board is confident that, through prudent yet flexible strategic planning, strong brand appeal and an optimised product portfolio, the Group will successfully enhance customer loyalty. This will steadily drive the business toward sustainable growth, thus creating long-term and robust returns for shareholders.

Asian equities traded cautiously on Friday as South Korea’s Kospi fell sharply, with investors cutting exposure to heavyweight technology stocks ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s closely watched Jackson Hole address.

The Kospi closed 1.79% lower at 6,788.88, shedding 123.49 points and snapping a three-session advance. Samsung Electronics dropped 3.38% to 257,000 won, while SK hynix fell 4.45% to 1.653 million won as investors locked in gains following an earlier technology rally fuelled by strong results from Nvidia. Foreign and institutional investors sold a combined 2 trillion won of Seoul-listed shares, while retail investors were net buyers.

The retreat highlighted growing caution over valuations in artificial intelligence-linked stocks. Nvidia had jumped nearly 9% in the previous Wall Street session after delivering strong quarterly results and indicating that spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure remained robust. The performance initially lifted technology stocks across the region, but enthusiasm faded in Seoul as attention shifted towards interest rates and the outlook for global bond yields.

Warsh’s first keynote address as Federal Reserve chair at the annual Jackson Hole symposium became the central focus for markets. Investors were looking for guidance on how the central bank would respond to persistent inflation pressures and whether policymakers were moving closer to raising borrowing costs. Interest-rate futures before the speech indicated roughly a one-third probability of an increase at the September meeting, with markets pricing in a move by December.

Bond markets have become particularly sensitive to Federal Reserve communication after longer-term Treasury yields climbed amid concerns that inflation could remain above target. The 30-year US Treasury yield was around 5.2% on Friday after briefly exceeding 5.3%, its highest level since 2007. The 10-year yield stood near 4.67%, while the two-year yield was about 4.23% before Warsh addressed the gathering.

Elsewhere in Asia, market performances were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei advanced around 0.5%, supported by technology shares and inflation data that reinforced expectations of further monetary tightening by the Bank of Japan. Tokyo consumer inflation for August remained close to the central bank’s 2% objective, keeping expectations of another interest-rate increase alive.

Taiwanese shares gained about 1.2%, benefiting more directly from Nvidia’s strong performance because of the island’s extensive semiconductor supply chain. Hong Kong shares moved slightly lower during part of the session, while mainland Chinese equities traded in a narrow range. The CSI 300 slipped about 0.1% at one stage and the Shanghai Composite edged higher, with investors also preparing for purchasing managers’ index data due next week.

Australia’s ASX 200 gained around 0.5%, while Singapore’s Straits Times Index advanced modestly. The Nifty 50 also moved higher as technology shares supported a rebound after two sessions of losses. Regional investors nevertheless avoided large positions as the direction of US monetary policy remained the dominant influence on risk appetite.

Currency markets were similarly restrained. The dollar index hovered around 99.1 and was on course for a weekly gain. The Australian dollar performed strongly after hotter inflation data led traders to reassess the interest-rate outlook, touching a three-month high near $0.72 and extending what was set to become a ninth consecutive weekly advance.

Oil prices provided some relief for equities after falling sharply during the week. Brent crude traded around $89.6-$89.7 a barrel and was heading for a weekly decline of more than 5%, partly reflecting developments involving Iran and Oman over administration of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Lower energy prices eased one source of inflation concern, although geopolitical risks remained embedded in commodity markets.

Gold slipped towards $4,590 an ounce as traders awaited clearer signals on US rates. The broader MSCI Asia-Pacific index outside Japan was little changed, showing how the powerful Nvidia-led technology trade was being offset by uncertainty over monetary policy, elevated chip valuations and higher bond yields.

Hong Kong: A Strategic Choice for Global Ambitions

A recipient of two prestigious entrance scholarships, Clarrence is currently enrolled in CUHK’s Integrated Bachelor of Business Administration (IBBA) programme. A graduate of SMAK 1 BPK Penabur Jakarta, she saw the city as a gateway to global opportunity. “I think of Hong Kong as a financial hub, a bridge between countries. For someone who wants to study international business or finance, Hong Kong is the answer.”

She first encountered CUHK at her secondary school’s education fair and was drawn to its world-class standing (ranked second in Hong Kong and 18th globally). “I fell in love with CUHK’s environment, the buildings, the nature and all the diversity. The various organisations and events sealed it. For me, CUHK is just right.” On top of her University Admission Scholarship and top-up scholarship by the CUHK Business School, her commitment was further recognised with two scholarships upon admission: the Shum Wai Yau and Kong Fook To Belt and Road First-in-the-Family Tertiary Education Admission Scholarship and the United College CUHK Golden Jubilee First-in-the-Family Tertiary Education Admission Scholarship.

Building Belonging in the CUHK Community

Since arriving on campus, the transition was not without challenges. Language barriers initially meant she missed updates and campus events, but CUHK’s support network for international students helped her find her footing. The atmosphere, she says, is family-like, giving students space to stay connected to home while building friendships across borders. A mentorship programme also gave her early exposure to Hong Kong’s professional landscape. “It really opened my eyes to the real job market here,” she said.

From Classroom to the Global Stage

Clarrence’s ambitions are clearly defined: a Big Four internship, an exchange semester, and a career in Hong Kong before returning to make her mark in Indonesia. “For business, Hong Kong is the answer, and CUHK’s reputation as one of the top universities in the world says it all. With the scholarship opportunities on top of that, it’s truly a win-win.”

CUHK’s Integrated BBA Programme

Offered by the region’s first business school, CUHK’s Integrated BBA programme gives students the freedom to shape a curriculum around their ambitions. Key highlights include:

HOHHOT, CHINA – Media OutReach Newswire – 28 August 2026 – On 25 August, Hohhot convened a conference on deepening the integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation. At the event, the city officially released its Measures for Advancing Deep Integration of Technological Innovation and Industrial Innovation, together with an overarching implementation plan. The 20 measures share one objective: to place economic and social development firmly on an innovation-driven path and accelerate Hohhot’s emergence as an important growth pole for high-quality development in northern China.

“The less developed a region is, the more it needs to pursue an innovation-driven development strategy.” This message, voiced at the conference, reflects the clear-eyed resolve of a provincial capital city.

That resolve is underpinned by real strengths.

Here, the National Dairy Technology Innovation Centre has shortened dairy-cattle breeding evaluation from four years to just 45 days and cultivated China’s first probiotic strain for infants and young children derived from Chinese breast milk, helping the “Dairy Capital of China” advance towards becoming a global dairy hub. A major scientific facility for aerospace, sky-to-ground, cross-scale metrology, benchmarked against international leaders, is rising in Horinger New District. Inner Mongolia University of Technology has launched the region’s first new-energy industrial large model open to the world. Meanwhile, a domestic enterprise—the only one currently able to produce 4N5 high-purity germanium products consistently—is helping quantum technology and calcium-titanium mineral photovoltaics overcome key raw-material bottlenecks. From a single microbial strain to a beam of light, technological and industrial innovation are converging here and reinforcing one another.

Even more compelling is the city’s tangible commitment.

Municipal fiscal investment in science and technology will double in 2026 and double again in 2027. Newly recognised national-level innovation platforms will receive a one-off research grant of RMB 3 million, while each “Qingcheng Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talent” may receive up to RMB 500,000 in research support. By 2030, Hohhot aims to introduce an additional 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as 50 high-level innovation teams. Through a policy approach of “enjoy benefits without application and receive them directly and swiftly”, the city will provide inclusive computing-power vouchers, model vouchers and token vouchers to technology-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises—lowering barriers to innovation and demonstrating the city’s sincerity in supporting innovators.

The World Dairy Capital sculpture is unveiled at Yili Modern Wisdom Health Valley.
The World Dairy Capital sculpture is unveiled at Yili Modern Wisdom Health Valley.

Openness is a defining feature of Hohhot.

Drawing on the Hohhot Area of the China (Inner Mongolia) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the city is building an international science and technology cooperation base with countries along the Belt and Road. It is also deepening coordination with Beijing’s Haidian District through a “two-hour innovation circle”, exploring a new pathway in which research and development take place elsewhere while results are transformed and applied in Hohhot. Hohhot understands that innovation cannot thrive as an undertaking enclosed behind walls.

Like the Mongolian horse, it is resilient, diligent and determined—never resting until the goal is achieved. This is the character of the city: the breadth and inclusiveness of the grasslands, combined with the courage and pioneering spirit to open northwards, explore new frontiers and put ideas into action.

From the “Dairy Capital of China” to China’s “Cloud Valley”, from the pastures of Chilechuan to the computing-power clusters of Horinger, this green city is becoming a city of innovation.

Hohhot extends an invitation to the world: here there are supportive policies, real-world application scenarios and a genuine commitment to partnership—together with a vast landscape in which to join hands with those who strive and build for the future.

Alibaba Group Holding’s powerful insiders have stepped in to buy shares after its $10.2 billion equity placement, but their show of confidence has done little to settle investor unease over dilution and the rising cost of the company’s artificial intelligence ambitions.

Founder Jack Ma bought more than HK$600 million worth of Alibaba’s Hong Kong-listed shares over consecutive trading days, while chairman Joe Tsai and chief executive Eddie Wu together purchased more than HK$200 million of stock. The buying helped shares recover modestly after the placement triggered their sharpest setback in months, but the stock remained well below levels preceding the deal.

Alibaba priced 710 million new shares at HK$112.70 each, raising HK$80 billion, or about $10.2 billion. The price represented an 8.4% discount to the August 21 Hong Kong close of HK$123 and increased the company’s outstanding share count by roughly 3.7%.

Hong Kong-listed shares slumped 8.5% on August 24, closing at HK$112.50 after trading as low as HK$110.10. They recovered 1.5% to HK$114.20 on Tuesday as purchases by senior executives became known, leaving them still more than 7% below the price immediately before the placement was announced.

The transaction has become a test of whether investors will continue financing increasingly expensive AI expansion despite the near-term pressure it places on earnings and cash generation. Alibaba has earmarked all net proceeds for its full-stack AI capabilities, covering computing infrastructure, chips, models and other technologies required to expand its cloud and generative AI businesses.

Demand for the offering itself was strong. Investor orders reached roughly $28 billion, making the placement almost three times subscribed. Sovereign wealth funds and long-only institutional investors accounted for a sizeable portion of allocations. The deal ranks as the largest primary follow-on share offering by a Hong Kong-listed company.

The discomfort instead centres on the scale and timing of Alibaba’s capital requirements. The company spent close to $10 billion on capital expenditure during the three months through June, an increase of about 75% from a year earlier. Net profit dropped about 75%, while free cash flow turned into an outflow of roughly $6.6 billion.

Alibaba has already deployed almost half of the 380 billion yuan it pledged last year to spend on AI and cloud infrastructure over three years. Management has argued that rapidly growing demand justifies accelerating investment and has shortened its expected payback period for AI expenditure to about two-and-a-half years from three years.

That argument is supported by Alibaba Cloud’s accelerating expansion. Revenue from the cloud business has been growing strongly, helped by demand for AI-related products, while the company continues to build computing capacity overseas. Alibaba Cloud this month opened a third data centre in South Korea, taking its network to 104 availability zones across 30 regions.

Its Qwen family of large language models has also strengthened Alibaba’s position among leading Chinese AI developers. New iterations have improved performance in coding, reasoning and agent-based tasks, helping the company compete with models from domestic rivals and leading US technology groups.

Investors nevertheless face a difficult balance between the longer-term AI opportunity and the immediate financial cost. Expensive processors, servers, data centres and networking equipment require large upfront commitments, while competition is pushing model providers towards lower prices. Alibaba is simultaneously spending heavily on quick commerce and other consumer businesses, adding pressure to margins.

The share sale has also revived scrutiny of capital allocation. Alibaba spent years repurchasing billions of dollars of its own shares, only to issue new equity at a sizeable discount as AI spending accelerated. Although the company still has substantial cash resources, investors have questioned why such a large equity raising was preferable to greater use of its balance sheet or debt financing.

Washington’s expanding economic offensive against Tehran is threatening to squeeze China’s access to discounted Iranian crude after war, blockades and maritime attacks sharply reduced flows through the Middle East’s main energy chokepoints. Chinese imports of Iranian crude moving through the Strait of Hormuz averaged about 530,000 barrels a day in July and August, down roughly 36 per cent from the first half of 2026 and 72 per […]

A powerful anonymous artificial intelligence model designed for coding has emerged with an unusually large context window, free access and a data policy that allows its unidentified operator to retain users’ prompts and responses. BEIJING, CHINA– Media OutReach Newswire – 24 August 2026 – The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games opened yesterday at Beijing’s National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “Ice Ribbon.” As another real-world validation of 5G Capital in robotics and embodied AI, China Unicom Beijing and Huawei have built an integrated digital foundation powered by a 5G-A GigaUplink network, supporting intelligent event operations, robot competition, and spectator experiences. The deployment also lays a connectivity foundation for humanoid robots to move beyond the arena and into everyday life. Across Beijing, 5G Capital’s region-wide GigaUplink network is providing ubiquitous, secure, and reliable connectivity for a growing range of cultural tourism, embodied AI, and Mobile AI applications and events.

China Unicom Beijing and Huawei Power the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games with 5G-A GigaUplink
China Unicom Beijing and Huawei Power the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games with 5G-A GigaUplink

This year’s Games feature major upgrades in both scale and competition design. A total of 1,301 competitions across 51 events will see 2,056 humanoid robots from 666 teams worldwide take part. The number of events has nearly doubled from 26 in the inaugural Games to 51 this year, with new high-intensity head-to-head events such as table tennis and kickboxing. Scenario-based competitions have also expanded into real-world settings including industrial production, hotels, homes, and logistics, while dance events place greater emphasis on synchronized movement across multiple robots. More autonomous competition formats and significantly higher task complexity are placing stringent demands on networks for high-capacity uplink, millisecond-level responsiveness, and high reliability, supporting real-time robot telemetry, precise control signaling, and multi-robot coordination.

To meet these requirements, China Unicom Beijing and Huawei deployed a dedicated 100 MHz network, complemented by a 300 MHz LampSite ultra-wideband indoor network, to support real-time robot telemetry and precise signaling exchange. A dedicated 5QI 7 slice combined with carrier isolation keeps end-to-end latency for humanoid robots within 30 milliseconds, supporting millisecond-level decision-making and response while helping ensure the precision of multi-robot coordination, obstacle avoidance, and fine-motion control.

By further integrating the dedicated network with BeiDou RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) positioning, the solution delivers decimeter- to sub-decimeter-level positioning accuracy, supporting autonomous navigation, agile obstacle avoidance, and precision racing in complex environments. On-site tests recorded a peak uplink speed of 1 Gbps, with average latency below 30 milliseconds.

While safeguarding mission-critical connectivity for the robots, China Unicom has also made the network experience of on-site spectators a priority. To address the high-density, heavy-traffic demands of large crowds, network resources and service assurance policies are dynamically adjusted according to different phases and areas of the event, including admission, waiting, competition, and departure. Core services such as instant messaging, ticket inquiries, QR-code admission, and mobile payments are prioritized for stable access, while the network also accommodates data-intensive services such as photo uploads, short-video sharing, and live streaming. This allows spectators to stay connected, interact seamlessly, and share highlights in real time even during peak traffic periods.

On the operations side, China Unicom has also developed China’s first embodied AI robot management platform designed for event scenarios. Through a unique network ID assigned to each robot, event staff can monitor its location within the venue, competition status, and operational metrics in real time, creating a closed-loop operations and management system.

China Unicom and Huawei Together Advancing the 5G Capital initiative
China Unicom and Huawei Together Advancing the 5G Capital initiative

Yang Lifan, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom Beijing, said: “This network deployment is not only a real-world test of China Unicom’s network capabilities; it will also help us accumulate valuable network assurance experience for the large-scale deployment of embodied AI. China Unicom will continue to build on the experience gained through the 5G Capital initiative and turn technological innovation into tangible and replicable network capabilities for the Mobile AI era. In doing so, we aim to support industrial innovation and help bring Chinese solutions to the world with China Unicom’s expertise.”

David Li, President of Huawei’s Wireless TDD Product Line, said: “The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games have provided a compelling real-world validation of the 5G-A 100 MHz GigaUplink network based on 3.5 GHz 2CC + 2.1 GHz SUL for embodied AI scenarios. Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to work with China Unicom Beijing to strengthen uplink capabilities and advance spectrum coordination, building multidimensional network capabilities with tiered and differentiated service assurance for multimodal device-to-cloud transmission. This will enable real-time interaction and precise control across a wide range of embodied AI scenarios.

“Networks are about more than speed. Low latency, high reliability, and ubiquitous coverage are equally important. Building on these capabilities, we will further advance the 5G Capital initiative, continue to expand the boundaries of network performance, and lay a solid foundation for the Mobile AI era, working with industry partners to enable an intelligent future.”

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 August 2026 – The AI x Cybersecurity Challenge, jointly organised by the Digital Policy Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies, the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Professional Association, and China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited, and co-organised by Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Venustech Group Inc., and Hong Kong Cloud Peak Technology Co., Limited, held the Finals today.

Following a 12-hour online qualifying round, a total of 40 teams advanced to the Final Competition, including 20 teams from the Chinese Mainland, 18 from Hong Kong, and two from overseas regions. The Challenge adopts an innovative AI-Driven Dual (AID) competition format, in which artificial intelligence (AI) executes the competition and enables autonomous defence by AI agents. Teams of up to three members showcase their capabilities in leveraging AI technologies for automated vulnerability discovery and exploitation, competing for total prize money of HK$180,000.

The event brings together representatives from Government, industry, academia and research organisations to witness the latest developments in AI-powered cybersecurity innovation. Officiating guests at the Opening Ceremony included Professor SUN Dong, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Mr LI Shuguang, Director-General of the General Office of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr WANG Jiang, Director-General of the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies, Mr Daniel CHEUNG, JP, Acting Commissioner for Digital Policy, Mr WANG Minwei, Deputy Director of the Cyberspace Administration of Guangdong Province, Dr Rocky CHENG, JP, President of the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Professional Association, and Ms SHI Xiaoping, Director and Chief Executive Officer of China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited.

In his opening remarks, the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, said that AI is reshaping every aspect of people’s life at a breathtaking speed. He noted that although innovation may at times bring new threats, these same technologies can also spur defensive capabilities. As such, the Government champions an “AI versus AI” strategy, leveraging AI to forge the strongest shields to effectively manage risks associated with the use of AI.

Professor Sun added that the Government is continuously strengthening related policies, guidelines and ethical frameworks, as well as conducting regular cyber-attack-and-defence drills to better prepare for cybersecurity readiness. Through multi-pronged efforts, the Government hopes to guide society to apply AI responsibly, foster a healthy ecosystem, and strengthen city-wide resilience in face of cyber attacks.

Addressing AI-Era Cybersecurity Challenges Through Talent Development

The rapid advancement of AI is reshaping the global cybersecurity landscape. AI has evolved from a supporting tool for security analysis and threat monitoring into a technology capable of autonomously constructing attack chains and bypassing existing defence mechanisms. This has significantly lowered the technical barriers to cyberattacks, making sophisticated attack techniques more automated and accessible. Threat actors can leverage AI for intelligent vulnerability discovery, automated penetration testing, and even the creation of highly convincing deepfake content, enabling stealthier and more persistent cyberattacks.

As emerging threats such as model security risks, data poisoning, model theft, phishing attacks, supply chain vulnerabilities and automated exploitation continue to evolve, the demand for interdisciplinary talent with expertise in both AI and cybersecurity is becoming increasingly urgent. In response, the organisers aim to promote the practical application of AI technologies through this hands-on competition while cultivating a new generation of cybersecurity professionals equipped with cross-disciplinary expertise.

AI-Driven Attack-and-Defence Competition Platform

Unlike traditional Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions, this year’s Challenge adopts an innovative AI-Driven (AID) competition format. Participating teams leverage AI-powered automated systems to analyse the competition environment provided by the organisers, identify vulnerabilities and exploit them. The automated capabilities of the AI agents include information gathering, vulnerability discovery and flag submission. The competition environment incorporates both vulnerabilities found in real-world scenarios and simulated zero-day vulnerabilities that may exist in software systems.

The challenge design draws on concepts from international cybersecurity competitions and incorporates practical operating scenarios as well as simulated zero-day attack-and-defence environments, testing participants’ ability to apply AI technologies to real-world cybersecurity challenges. The Challenge aims to enhance participants’ practical attack-and-defence experience and innovation capabilities, promote the research and application of AI security technologies, and nurture a new generation of cybersecurity talent equipped with both strategic vision and practical expertise. Through these efforts, the competition seeks to strengthen capabilities in addressing AI-driven cyber threats.

Government, Industry, Academia and Research Communities Join Forces to Advance AI Security

This year’s Challenge brings together stakeholders from government, industry and research institutions to drive innovation in AI security technologies, strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and cultivate future talent.

Mr Wang Jiang, Director-General of the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies, said, “AI technologies are reshaping the global cyber attack-and-defence landscape. While they lower the barriers to cyberattacks, they also drive the evolution of security protection from reactive response to proactive and intelligent defence. In this technological contest, using technology to counter technology has become an inevitable trend. By focusing on practical AI attack-and-defence capabilities, this competition aims to identify emerging talent and contribute to building a more trustworthy and intelligent cyberspace.”

Ms Shi Xiaoping, Director and Chief Executive Officer of China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited, said, “As one of the organisers of this competition, China Mobile Hong Kong has devoted substantial resources to building an innovative AI attack-and-defence competition platform. Through continuous technology investment and ecosystem development, we actively fulfil our corporate social responsibility while showcasing Hong Kong’s innovation and leadership in AI cybersecurity to the world.”

Dr Rocky CHENG, JP, President of the Hong Kong Cybersecurity Professional Association, concluded, “AI-driven cyberattacks and agentic AI-related risks have emerged as some of the most significant cybersecurity threats today. Against this backdrop, cultivating interdisciplinary talent with expertise in AI system design, development and practical attack-and-defence capabilities has become an important pillar in strengthening Hong Kong’s overall cyber resilience.”

The Awards Presentation Ceremony will be held in late September 2026 during the China Cybersecurity Week to recognise teams that have demonstrated outstanding performance in the competition. The organisers encourage enterprises and organisations to continuously strengthen their cybersecurity governance, regularly review information system risks, enhance data protection measures and improve cyber incident response capabilities. Young talents are also encouraged to pursue opportunities in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, developing their expertise through training, professional certifications and hands-on competitions. Members of the public and organisations may also make use of the cybersecurity information, training programmes and support services provided by the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) and other relevant organisations, helping to foster a safer, more secure and trustworthy digital ecosystem.

LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 22 August 2026 – On August 20, 2026, Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, shone even brighter as it celebrated its renowned music festival. The youthful Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, hailing from Wuxi, China’s first UNESCO “City of Music,” stepped into the heartland of classical music for the very first time under the leadership of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Lin Daye. Inside a packed Gallus Hall at Cankarjev Dom, a profound and heartfelt musical dialogue unfolded between East and West.

Wuxi Symphony Orchestra Debuts at Ljubljana Festival: Sounds of the East Illuminate the Historic Central European City

As Slovenia’s largest international summer music festival, its stage saw the name of Wuxi, China, etched upon it for the very first time this summer. As the conductor’s baton cut through the silence, this ancient Central European city warmly welcomed the debut of this Eastern orchestra with thunderous, prolonged applause.

The concert opened to the magnificent sounds of the Overture to Verdi’s I vespri siciliani, with Lin Daye delivering the passion of Italian opera through his deeply expressive conducting. The orchestra then presented the festival debut of Fly To The Sky, an original symphonic suite by Li Shaosheng, whose embedded Eastern worldview resonated profoundly with the audience. Suona virtuoso Zhang Qianyuan’s performance in Questioning the Heavens was high-pitched and evocative, while tenor Xue Haoyin sang with heroic majesty in Heaven’s Movement is Strength, driving the atmosphere to a climax.

In the second half, the orchestra performed Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 in C minor. On a stage that has witnessed countless iconic performances of German-Austrian classics, the orchestra paid tribute to heritage through a precise yet impassioned interpretation. As the grand theme of the finale—symbolizing “through darkness into light”—echoed through the hall, the entire audience rose to their feet in a standing ovation, expressing high acclaim for the orchestra’s flawless execution. Darko Brlek, Artistic Director of the Ljubljana Festival, noted that this was the very first standing ovation given to a Chinese orchestra in the festival’s history of over 70 editions.

As the opening stop of their 2026 European tour, the Ljubljana performance marked a striking debut and strong statement of cultural confidence. Showcasing Jiangnan’s Wuxi to the world, these musical ambassadors from Lake Taihu foster cross‑cultural understanding through music, letting the world hear and understand China.
