By R. Suryamurthy The most consequential question arising from Washington’s latest sanctions legislation is not whether the United States can impose a 100 percent tariff on countries buying Russian oil. BANGKOK, THAILAND – Media OutReach Newswire – 25 September 2026 – A race or sporting event may be the reason to pack a bag and set off, but the enjoyment of a trip need not end at the finish line. For today’s travellers, physical activity, rest, good food, time by the sea and moments with the people they travel with can all be part of the same journey.

From late 2026 into 2027, Koh Samui offers several events around which active travellers can plan a trip. These include Koh Tan Eco Trail 2026 on 3–4 October 2026 and Samui Trail 2026 on 7–8 November 2026, as well as the Samui Regatta, which is expected to return in May 2027.

These events may be the starting point, but the moments before and after the competition help make the trip complete: preparing for the event, exploring the island, enjoying a meal after an active day, or spending a day with nothing on the schedule but relaxing by the sea.

ONYX Hospitality Group invites active travellers to experience Samui through two stays with distinct characters. OZO Chaweng Samui suits those who want to keep enjoying Chaweng’s energy after the event, while Amari Koh Samui offers space to slow down and spend unhurried time by the sea, alone or with loved ones.

OZO Chaweng Samui — Enjoy Every Activity and Keep Going All Day

For those who believe a holiday does not have to mean sitting still, OZO Chaweng Samui offers a comfortable base on Chaweng Beach where an active day can unfold naturally. After a good night’s sleep, guests might start the morning with a workout at TONE Fitness, head out for a run around the island or spend time by the sea with a favourite book. Later, they can relax beside the pool with a cold drink from BEACH Bar before deciding what to do next.

After a day of activity, STACKed Burger Samui turns a meal into another enjoyable part of the trip. Its comfort food and relaxed atmosphere make it a place to sit down together, share dishes, talk about the day or mark crossing the finish line with a small celebration.

The trip is for more than athletes and competitors. Friends, couples and families travelling with them can shape their own days too. One person might explore Chaweng while another relaxes by the pool or walks along the beach, before they meet again in the evening.

OZO’s appeal lies in giving everyone the freedom to enjoy Samui in their own way, then come back together to share the Good Vibes.

Amari Koh Samui — Make the Most of Your Time Away, Your Way

Travel offers opportunities to discover new things and try new experiences. Just as valuable is the chance to return, rest, recharge and spend time doing what you enjoy. Amari Koh Samui invites guests to turn the hours after exploring the island and taking part in activities into a restful stay. Its beachfront setting, leafy surroundings and attentive service offer room to pause, recharge and spend time alone or with travelling companions.

After an activity filled morning, the rest of the day can move at a gentler pace. Guests might take a walk by the sea, relax beside the pool, spend time caring for their body and mind, or discover another part of Samui before meeting again over a meal. Options include an easygoing meal at Amaya Food Gallery, where Asian favourites meet a delicious variety of international flavours., or dinner at Prego Italian Restaurant, which serves Italian dishes and authentic Italian style pizza in a welcoming setting.

During the day, Amaya Café offers a place to stop for coffee, tea or a light bite. Guests can then end the evening by the sea at Amaya Bar, with a cold drink, the breeze and the night-time atmosphere.

For couples, this might be a day without a packed itinerary, when simply spending time together is enough. Family members of different ages can each choose what they enjoy, from a breezy walk to time in the pool. Friends can also go their separate ways for a while: one might hire a car to explore the island while another relaxes with a treatment at Breeze Spa, before they reunite to share their stories in the evening.

Recharging can mean more than taking a break. It can mean having the time and space to return to what we enjoy, from the activities we want to try and the meals we want to savour to moments with the people with whom we want to share the journey.

When the Competition Is Just the Beginning of the Story

One trip does not have to offer the same experience to everyone. Some people travel to Samui to beat their personal best. Others want to experience nature, while someone else may simply want a beautiful sea, white sand, good food and an unhurried holiday.

What gives a journey meaning is the freedom for each person to spend time doing what they enjoy, alongside moments when everyone comes back together to share their stories and experiences.

This reflects More of What You Love, ONYX Hospitality Group’s approach to creating experiences. It is grounded in the belief that a great journey should give each person room to choose what they love, from relaxation, food and activities to discovering a destination and spending time with travelling companions.

In the end, the finish line may be just one moment in the trip. What makes Samui memorable may be everything that happens before and after it, and all the moments shared along the way.

The trip reflects More of What You Love by giving each person the freedom to bring more of what they enjoy into a journey together.

The Central Spark Series’ official launch ceremony brought together leaders from across government and the public sector, academia, social enterprise, and commerce. Officiating and attending guests demonstrating this cross-sector collaboration included Mr Ho Kai Ming, JP, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare; Ms Grace Chan Man-yee, Member of the 8th Legislative Council (Social Welfare Functional Constituency); Ms Jeanne Cheng, JP, District Officer (Central and Western District); Mr Ivan Ho, Harbourfront Commission Chairman; Ms Sam Lam, Interim Director of the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Prof Esterina Nervino, Associate Director of Global Governance & Innovation for a Shared Future at City University of Hong Kong; and Prof Howard Ling, Chief Consultant of Impact Incubator.

In March 2026, the Foundation organised the “AI for Good” Hackathon, a collaborative social innovation programme developed in partnership with The Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Ten NGOs and educational institutions pitched proposals to a panel of industry and community leaders. Three winning projects were selected: Central Connect by the Hong Kong Design Institute, Central as Canvas by Caritas Hong Kong, and Central POP! by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation. These three projects form the foundation of The Central Spark Series, with further details outlined in the appendix.

The Central Spark Series leverages Hongkong Land’s Central portfolio in the heart of Hong Kong as a dynamic platform for learning, public participation and community engagement. By bringing young people, NGOs, tenants, employees and the wider public into the district, it translates the Foundation’s People, Place and Culture pillars into visible, on-the-ground experiences. Together, these projects demonstrate how different sectors can collaborate to build longer-term partnerships and create measurable social impact by creating more inclusive and resilient communities. They also nurture the next generation in art and culture, heritage and creativity, building a talent pipeline for Hong Kong’s creative industries.

Beyond Hong Kong, the Foundation extends its reach into other communities where Hongkong Land operates. The Foundation recently backed the Cultural Legacy Innovation Challenge in Beijing, supporting local young people to reimagine the travel route along the Beijing Central Axis. The project promotes the city’s heritage and history to residents and visitors from around the world. In addition to monetary support, Hongkong Land volunteers also give back to the community by offering their time and effort. This year, volunteers across Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, Singapore and South Asia have contributed more than 3,000 hours to various projects.

Michael T. Smith, Group Chief Executive of Hongkong Land, and Director of Hongkong Land Foundation, said “Businesses thrive only when their communities flourish. Through our Hongkong Land Foundation, we are committed to unlocking upward social mobility for the next generation through meaningful mentorship, networks, and opportunities. Central, Hong Kong has long stood as the preeminent financial district. Through the Central Spark Series, we will bring together non-profit, academia, talent, commercial partners, tenants, and the wider community to broaden that identity to help make it a vibrant hub for creativity, collaboration, and community.”

Hongkong Land has a longstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility. Since its establishment in November 2020, the Foundation (formerly Hongkong Land HOME FUND) has committed more than HK$133 million in community initiatives benefiting more than 760,000 people. Working alongside its partners over the long term, Hongkong Land remains committed to creating lasting impact for the communities of Hong Kong and beyond.

Asked for a personal example, four in ten PSLE English oral practice answers give none, study finds

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 September 2026 – PSLEPrep, a Singapore-built AI oral examiner for PSLE English oral and PSLE Chinese oral practice, has published its first Oral Practice Report. It is based on 12,459 first answers given by 1,290 children practising on the platform over three months. PSLEPrep used AI to identify whether each answer, given before any follow-up question, contained a personal example or a reason.

Key findings:

  • When a question asked for a personal example, four in ten English answers did not give one.
  • Asked for an opinion, 96 per cent of English answers gave a reason.
  • In Chinese, 78 per cent of answers to personal-example questions gave one; the two languages are not directly comparable as the questions are different.
  • More than a quarter of all practice sessions took place in the four days before the oral examinations began on 12 August.
  • 8pm was the busiest hour for practice.

The main finding concerns questions such as “Have you ever…” and “Tell me about a time…”. Four in ten English answers to them stayed general: what the child usually does, or what people should do, without describing a specific experience of their own.

The problem is not that children cannot explain themselves. Almost every opinion answer gave a reason. What went missing was the child’s own experience, and that is part of what the oral paper assesses. In the PSLE English oral, the conversation section carries 25 of the 40 marks, and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) lists expressing “personal opinions, ideas and experiences” among its assessment objectives. In August, SEAB said the oral assesses communication skills, and that pupils are “not expected to reproduce … pre-prepared responses”.

Here is the same question answered two ways. Asked “Do you enjoy eating at hawker centres? Tell me about a time you went”, a general answer says: “Yes, I enjoy hawker centres because the food is cheap and tasty.” A specific answer says: “Yes, because there is so much choice. Last month my grandmother took me to the Bedok hawker centre and I tried chee cheong fun for the first time. I did not like the sauce, so she laughed and bought me chicken rice instead.” Both give a reason. Only the second describes a particular visit. The examples were written by PSLEPrep to illustrate the point; they are not children’s transcripts.

“Children have learned to say ‘because’. What they often leave out is the moment that makes the answer their own, and that is one of the things the examiner is listening for,” said Paul Whiteway, founder of PSLEPrep. “The most useful question a parent can ask is a simple one: when did that actually happen?”

Practice also bunched up before the exam. More than a quarter of all sessions in the three months began in the four days before the oral examinations started on 12 August. The busiest hour of the day was 8pm.

“At 8pm on a school night, a child can practise answering aloud with a patient examiner, and get feedback straight away,” said Mr Whiteway. “AI does not replace a good teacher. It gives children more chances to speak between lessons.”

The analysis used de-identified transcripts and reports only aggregated findings; no child is named or identifiable. The children are a self-selected group, so the findings describe children practising on the platform, not Singapore children as a whole. The full report at https://psleprep.sg/findings sets out the method and limitations and carries a chart free for editorial use.

PSLEPrep was founded by Mr Whiteway, a Singapore-based parent who does not speak Chinese and began using AI voice practice to help his son with spoken Mandarin at home. Its AI oral examiner runs a full PSLE oral practice session in either language and gives feedback and a score on each session, explained in plain English. The oral paper carries 20 per cent of the PSLE English grade and 25 per cent of the Chinese grade. PSLEPrep was named in The Straits Times in May 2026 among AI tools for PSLE oral preparation.

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 18 September 2026 – Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, John Lee, took part in a radio phone-in programme this morning (September 18), fielding questions about the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) (2026-2030) and his fifth Policy Address, which were unveiled on Wednesday (September 16).

Quizzed on various aspects of the HKSAR Government’s new blueprint for economic and social development, Mr Lee said the inaugural Five-Year Plan set out five main objectives for Hong Kong: better livelihoods for all; breakthroughs in economic development; expanding global competitiveness and influence; faster development of the Northern Metropolis; and to better serve the country.

On expanding global competitiveness, Mr Lee said the Government would make good use of its international networks.

“The strength of Hong Kong is its international status, and we have been emphasising on how we ensure the internationalism or the ‘internationalness’ of Hong Kong. We are expanding to cover every part of the world where we can reach,” Mr Lee said, noting that the Government had offices, including Economic and Trade Offices, and the offices of Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, in countries around the world. “I’m very serious about expanding our network.”

Since taking office four years ago, Mr Lee has led delegation visits to regions, including ASEAN Member States, the Middle East, and recently Central Asia. “And my colleagues really go more often to different parts of the world, so for South Africa, and also Kenya and these are the very popular African places that my colleagues go to visit,” he added.

To boost Hong Kong’s influence in overseas markets, Mr Lee highlighted the example of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).

“We are very proud to have the headquarters of IOMed set up in Hong Kong, because this is an organisation which is of United Nations status,” Mr Lee said. He added that an international office would be set up in Hong Kong under the global network of corruption prevention authorities. “Hong Kong is an international city, which not just is very good at doing business, but is exercising its responsibility as a global participator, and also, we really can contribute.”

“And this is also very important, because it just means how, in different areas, Hong Kong is doing very well, and also very connected to the world. And not just being a member, but being a contributor, being really a driver, and we want to share our good experiences, and also learn from other experiences.”

The First Five-Year Plan and the 2026 Policy Address placed strong focus on speeding up the development of the Northern Metropolis (NM) project, so as to boost long-term economic development, improve people’s livelihoods and help the city to further integrate into overall national development.

“The Northern Metropolis represents about one third of our geographical area. So it is a big piece of land that gives us new opportunities. An opportunity to upgrade ourselves, both from the accommodation angle as well as development angle,” Mr Lee said.

Beyond the city’s core economic strengths such as finance, shipping and trade, Mr Lee said the NM would provide room for diversifying local industries, creating new jobs and a brighter future as more development opportunities emerge from different kinds of industries as well as closer alignment with national development.

“The NM is actually mentioned in our country’s 15th Five-Year Plan. That means it is not just a Hong Kong development, it has been elevated as a state-driven project. And with the elevation of position, we will have to work hard. And I am sure that the Central Government will also help us to ensure that this will be a success story.

“And so, doing the Five-Year Plan has this advantage. We will capitalise on all the opportunities that the state can give us. At the same time, we will remain very fully connected to the international world. So we have the beauty of both worlds.”

Asked about Hong Kong’s approach to adopting artificial intelligence (AI), Mr Lee stressed the need to take advantage of the opportunities brought by AI, while also protecting against the risks of AI, in areas such as crime, fraud, sexual abuse and potential negative impacts on younger people.

“Last year, we talk very much about how we should benefit from the application of AI, how it will do things faster, and how it will also do things more correctly,” Mr Lee said.

“So while we develop and ensure people understand and use it, we also need to tell everybody the potential risks that it will bring.”

Mr Lee said the Government would create a post of Commissioner for AI, with a mandate that he is “the chief for the whole government, in terms of AI. It means setting the policy. It means coordinating resources, identify problems for them, setting the best practices, issuing guidelines. And also, very importantly, is developing AI for the whole of government with a view to, after we have developed our experience, let the world also learn from these experiences.”

Under the theme “The New Growth Equation”, this year’s forum brought Dr. Xing and three other industry leaders, including Pingyi Huang, Senior Vice President of Shandong Weiqiao Pioneering Group Co., Ltd.; Weiming Xiang, Vice President, GE Aerospace and President, GE Aerospace Greater China; and John Qu, Senior Partner, McKinsey & Company, for a panel discussion titled “The Invisible Moat: Revaluing Soft Power and Sustainability”. Moderated by Wei Yue, Senior Editor at Fortune China, the discussion explored what truly constitutes long-term advantages that can withstand cycles amid rapid technological iteration and intensifying competition. “In an era where almost everything can be replicated, consumers’ mindshare and trust cannot,” Dr. Xing said during the discussion. “The real moat is not just the product itself — it is a 360-degree, multi-dimensional moat built on product quality, consumer experience, emotional value and innovative scenarios.” She added that AI is bringing disruptive changes from consumer insights to organizational structure, and that future-ready organizations must embrace a flatter structure powered by AI agents, redirecting freed-up resources toward strategic decision-making and long-term value creation.

On the topic of Chinese enterprise globalization, Dr. Xing shared a three-stage pathway from product export to local manufacturing to glocalization, emphasizing that true globalization means deeply understanding local consumers and serving local markets with local insights.

As a recipient of the 2026 Fortune China’s MPW list, Dr. Xing has earned this recognition for three consecutive years. Launched in 2010, the MPW list is regarded as one of the most representative rankings of women business leaders in China.
