Abu Dhabi National Energy Company has unveiled plans to invest more than AED37 billion to meet the escalating power demands of the emirate’s expanding data centre and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The announcement was made by Group CEO and Managing Director Jasim Husain Thabet during the World Utilities Congress 2025.

This substantial investment is integral to TAQA’s strategy to deliver clean, certified, and reliable energy to critical infrastructure. The company aims to support Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become a global hub for digital innovation and AI development.

TAQA’s market capitalisation stands at approximately AED360 billion, positioning it among the top five companies in electricity generation, transmission, and water desalination across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Operating in 25 countries, TAQA has doubled its electricity production capacity to 56 gigawatts over the past four years, surpassing the total electricity consumption of the United Kingdom.

The company’s growth strategy includes significant international acquisitions. TAQA recently partnered with Mubadala to acquire an 875-megawatt gas-powered electricity station in Uzbekistan, aiding the country’s energy transition and opening new markets in Central Asia. Additionally, TAQA has acquired Transmission Investment, a leading UK-based energy and utility investment platform, enhancing its capabilities in offshore transmission services and infrastructure development.

In collaboration with Masdar, where TAQA holds a major stake, the company is developing 5 gigawatts of solar energy supported by 19 gigawatt-hours of battery storage. Solana’s cryptocurrency token has experienced a notable price surge, driven primarily by an inflow exceeding $1.1 billion to exchanges during May. This substantial movement of funds has attracted significant attention within the digital asset community, highlighting the growing interest in Solana amid an increasingly volatile market environment. The influx of tokens onto exchanges typically signals heightened trading activity, often preceding sharp price movements, and in Solana’s case, it appears to have been a catalyst for recent upward momentum.

The past weeks have seen a consolidation phase for Solana’s price, characterised by fluctuating trading volumes and cautious investor sentiment. However, May’s exchange inflow data reveals a sharp contrast, indicating a renewed wave of buying and selling pressure. This influx surpasses figures recorded in previous months, reflecting intensified activity from institutional players and retail investors alike. Analysts point out that such large-scale transfers to exchanges often suggest an intent to capitalise on price volatility, either through profit-taking or strategic accumulation.

Solana’s blockchain platform, known for its high throughput and fast transaction speeds, has gained traction beyond its original niche, appealing to a broader base of developers and users. Its ecosystem supports a wide range of decentralised applications, including DeFi protocols and NFTs, which have collectively contributed to increasing token demand. Industry experts attribute Solana’s recent price gains not only to market speculation but also to fundamental growth in network usage and ecosystem expansion.

Market participants closely monitor the inflow and outflow trends of tokens on exchanges as indicators of potential price directions. The reported $1.1 billion inflow represents tokens transferred from wallets to trading platforms, signalling that holders are preparing to trade. This can be interpreted in various ways: it may represent holders positioning themselves to sell and realise profits, or conversely, traders gearing up to buy or hedge positions amid market uncertainty.

Broader market conditions have influenced Solana’s trajectory as well. The cryptocurrency sector has witnessed uneven performance across different assets, with some coins consolidating while others rally sharply. Bitcoin’s fluctuating dominance and regulatory developments have introduced layers of complexity into trading decisions. Against this backdrop, Solana’s price action stands out due to the volume and scale of exchange inflows, setting it apart from many peers.

Further analysis of blockchain data confirms that the inflows were concentrated over several large transactions, often linked to known institutional wallets and prominent traders. This pattern contrasts with typical retail trading behaviour, which tends to be characterised by numerous smaller transfers. The presence of institutional activity points to growing confidence in Solana’s potential for medium-term gains, despite lingering concerns over market volatility and regulatory scrutiny.

Solana’s technological edge is often cited as a key factor supporting its valuation. The platform utilises a novel proof-of-history mechanism combined with proof-of-stake consensus, enabling it to process thousands of transactions per second with low fees. This scalability advantage is critical in sustaining the network’s appeal amid growing congestion issues faced by some competing blockchains. The surge in exchange inflows may partly reflect investor anticipation of further adoption driven by these technical strengths.

However, the rapid influx of tokens to exchanges also raises questions about market stability. Large sell-offs following such inflows could lead to increased price swings, challenging traders and investors to navigate the volatility carefully. Some market analysts warn that while the current price rise appears robust, it may be vulnerable to corrections if selling pressure intensifies or if broader market sentiment deteriorates.

Solana’s recent developments extend beyond price movements and token flows. The network has announced partnerships and upgrades aimed at enhancing security and interoperability, which could underpin longer-term growth. These initiatives include collaborations with major fintech firms and integration with cross-chain protocols, designed to broaden Solana’s accessibility and utility. Such advancements bolster the narrative that the project is moving beyond speculative trading into a more mature phase of ecosystem development.

The token’s growing use in decentralised finance applications adds an additional layer of interest for investors. DeFi platforms on Solana have attracted liquidity providers through competitive yields and efficient transaction processing, making them popular alternatives to Ethereum-based solutions burdened by higher fees. This trend has helped sustain demand for SOL tokens, supporting price levels despite wider market fluctuations.

Regulatory scrutiny remains an ongoing challenge for the cryptocurrency industry, including Solana. Various jurisdictions continue to debate rules concerning token classifications, trading practices, and investor protections. How regulators approach emerging blockchain technologies could significantly affect Solana’s market dynamics. Investors are closely watching for clarity that could either open new opportunities or impose restrictions affecting token liquidity and valuation.

Investor sentiment towards Solana reflects a balance of optimism and caution. While the large-scale exchange inflows and fundamental network growth signal promising prospects, market participants acknowledge the inherent risks posed by external economic factors, potential regulatory changes, and technological competition. The interplay of these forces will likely shape Solana’s price trajectory in the weeks ahead.

Companies handling sensitive customer data are increasingly adopting SOC 2 audit readiness as a strategic imperative, not merely a compliance checkbox. This proactive approach is becoming essential for businesses aiming to secure partnerships, streamline operations, and fortify their reputations in a competitive digital landscape.

SOC 2, developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants , evaluates an organisation’s controls related to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. Achieving SOC 2 compliance demonstrates a company’s commitment to data protection and operational excellence.

A SOC 2 readiness assessment serves as a preliminary evaluation to identify and address potential gaps in an organisation’s control environment before undergoing the formal audit. This process involves a thorough review of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure they align with the Trust Services Criteria. By conducting this assessment, companies can proactively mitigate risks and enhance their security posture.

The benefits of SOC 2 readiness extend beyond compliance. Organisations that complete the assessment often experience increased efficiency in their audit processes, reduced time and resources spent on remediation, and improved confidence among stakeholders. Furthermore, a successful SOC 2 audit can serve as a competitive differentiator, signalling to clients and partners that the company prioritises data security and integrity.

In sectors where data breaches can have significant financial and reputational consequences, SOC 2 readiness is particularly valuable. It enables companies to identify vulnerabilities, implement robust controls, and establish a culture of continuous improvement in their security practices. This proactive stance not only safeguards sensitive information but also positions organisations as trustworthy and reliable partners.

The altcoin market is under intense scrutiny as a leading blockchain analyst warns of a potential collapse nearing 99% by 2026. This stark projection has intensified debate among investors and industry observers about the sustainability and risks within the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.

A seasoned on-chain analyst, known for precise timing and market predictions, has publicly announced plans to exit all altcoin holdings by August 2025. The analyst’s outlook is grounded in an examination of historical price trends, network activity, and macroeconomic factors affecting digital assets. Despite periodic rallies often dubbed “altcoin seasons,” the warning signals suggest that many alternative tokens could face dramatic value erosion over the coming years.

Altcoins, which include thousands of cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, have historically exhibited higher volatility and speculative characteristics. Periods of rapid price appreciation have often been followed by steep declines. The analyst’s research highlights patterns from past cycles indicating that altcoin prices tend to surge in mid-year months before collapsing sharply over subsequent periods. While these cyclical phenomena have produced short-term gains for some investors, the risk of a severe market downturn remains elevated.

Underlying this bearish view is a cluster of challenges. Regulatory uncertainty looms large across major jurisdictions, with authorities in the United States, Europe, and Asia intensifying scrutiny of cryptocurrency projects. Increased enforcement actions against fraudulent or non-compliant tokens have undermined investor confidence. Furthermore, rising interest rates globally have driven capital away from high-risk assets such as altcoins toward safer instruments, shrinking liquidity in the crypto markets.

Technological factors also contribute to the forecast. Many altcoins suffer from lack of developer engagement, insufficient user adoption, and unclear utility beyond speculative trading. Network activity data reveals a trend of declining transaction volumes and wallet addresses interacting with a majority of smaller projects. This erosion in on-chain activity signals fading real-world relevance, which historically correlates with falling valuations.

Institutional interest has increasingly concentrated on established digital assets with clearer use cases, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, leaving lesser-known altcoins vulnerable. Large investment funds and hedge managers are selectively reallocating portfolios, favouring assets perceived as more resilient amid tightening monetary conditions. This shift contributes to widening disparities in market capitalisation within the cryptocurrency sector.

The analyst’s planned exit timing in August 2025 aligns with predictive models that identify peak speculative behaviour preceding significant corrections. By exiting well ahead of anticipated declines, the strategy aims to mitigate losses linked to the expected altcoin slump. This contrarian stance challenges narratives promoting imminent altcoin booms and “100x” token gains, cautioning investors against excessive optimism.

Market sentiment remains divided. Proponents of altcoins argue that innovation in decentralized finance , non-fungible tokens , and layer-two scaling solutions could catalyse renewed interest and price recovery. Projects with strong developer communities and proven protocols may weather the storm better than most. However, even promising initiatives must navigate tightening regulations, evolving market dynamics, and competition from traditional financial platforms integrating blockchain technology.

The macroeconomic environment adds complexity. Inflation pressures and geopolitical uncertainties are influencing global investment flows. Crypto markets have shown sensitivity to monetary policy shifts, and tighter credit conditions may limit speculative capital entering altcoins. This contrasts with prior years when expansive liquidity fueled exuberant asset price increases, including in crypto.

Investor behaviour during prior altcoin cycles provides instructive context. The pattern of exuberance followed by capitulation remains a recurring theme. For example, the 2017 bull run ended with widespread losses during the 2018 crash, while subsequent cycles showed similar boom-and-bust dynamics. The warning of a 99% decline aligns with extreme downside scenarios that, while dramatic, are not unprecedented in highly speculative markets.

Surveillance of on-chain metrics and market data continues to be crucial for participants. Indicators such as active addresses, transaction counts, token issuance rates, and exchange flows offer insights into momentum and sustainability. The analytical focus is increasingly on distinguishing quality projects from those vulnerable to failure or manipulation.

This forecast challenges investors and stakeholders to reconsider risk exposure and due diligence processes. Portfolio diversification, rigorous project evaluation, and cautious entry timing emerge as essential strategies. The prospect of a severe altcoin downturn underscores the need for heightened awareness of structural vulnerabilities in the crypto market landscape.

USDT activity on the Tron blockchain has reached unprecedented levels, with the circulating supply now at $77.7 billion, monthly transaction volumes exceeding $611 billion, and over 65.6 million transfers recorded. This surge underscores Tron’s emergence as a dominant force in the stablecoin ecosystem, surpassing traditional financial networks in transaction throughput.

Tron’s ascent in the stablecoin market is attributed to its high-speed, low-cost infrastructure, which has attracted a vast user base. The network boasts over 300 million accounts, processing more than 14 million USDT transactions weekly, accounting for approximately 69% of global USDT activity. This dominance is further highlighted by Tron’s surpassing of Visa’s daily average transaction volume, with USDT on Tron reaching $53 billion in a single day compared to Visa’s $42 billion.

The network’s efficiency has made it a preferred choice for users in regions with limited access to traditional banking services. In Africa, for instance, 85% of users rated the Tron network five stars, citing its stable and low-cost payment experience. Similarly, in Argentina, a partnership with local e-commerce platform Kripton has enabled over 2,000 merchants to accept USDT payments, facilitating more than 100,000 transactions and $2 million in volume within 18 months.

Tron’s technological advancements, including the launch of the “Gas Free” USDT transfer feature, have further reduced transaction costs, solidifying its position in the payment sector. The network’s ability to process thousands of transactions per second with minimal fees has been instrumental in its widespread adoption.

Despite its rapid growth, Tron’s association with founder Justin Sun has attracted scrutiny. Sun, who has faced investigations by U.S. authorities for alleged market manipulation and facilitating illicit financial activities, recently returned to the U.S. to attend a dinner with former President Trump. His involvement in Trump’s crypto ventures, including a $75 million investment in World Liberty Financial and a significant stake in the $TRUMP memecoin, has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest.

Donald Trump’s net worth has surged to an estimated $6.1 billion, marking a significant increase from previous valuations. This financial ascent is largely attributed to his stakes in Trump Media & Technology Group and the $TRUMP cryptocurrency, ventures that have drawn scrutiny over their speculative nature and potential conflicts of interest. Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, has achieved a valuation of […]

Saudi Aramco is exploring asset sales to bolster its balance sheet as it navigates declining oil revenues and intensifies its international expansion efforts. The state-owned oil giant has engaged investment banks to propose strategies for monetising its assets, according to individuals familiar with the matter. While specific assets and banks involved remain undisclosed, the move underscores Aramco’s proactive approach to financial management amid market challenges.

The company’s net income fell by 12% to $106.2 billion in 2024, down from $121.3 billion the previous year, primarily due to lower oil prices and reduced production volumes. Consequently, Aramco plans to cut its total dividend payout by nearly a third in 2025, distributing $85.4 billion compared to $124 billion in 2024. This reduction is expected to impact Saudi Arabia’s budget, which heavily relies on Aramco’s dividends to fund its Vision 2030 economic diversification initiative.

In response to these financial pressures, Aramco is actively seeking investors for infrastructure assets in its $100 billion Jafurah gas project, aiming to become a major global natural gas player. The company intends to maintain majority ownership and operational control while attracting external investments to support development. This strategy follows previous deals, including nearly $28 billion raised in 2021 through selling 49% stakes in its oil and gas pipeline subsidiaries.

Aramco’s international expansion includes signing preliminary agreements with U.S. companies valued at up to $90 billion, encompassing sectors such as liquefied natural gas, artificial intelligence, and technology. Key deals involve a 20-year LNG purchase agreement with NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG export project in Texas and collaborations with ExxonMobil to upgrade the Samref refinery in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Aramco is in discussions to invest in two new refineries in India, seeking stable markets for its crude amidst increased competition from cheaper sources like Russia.

Despite the dividend cut, Aramco plans capital investments between $52 billion and $58 billion in 2025, focusing on expanding its gas capabilities and integrating its upstream and downstream businesses. The company expects potential operating cash flows of $9 billion to $10 billion from growth in its upstream gas business and $8 billion to $10 billion from its downstream business by 2030.

Aramco’s financial adjustments come amid a broader context of declining oil prices, with Brent crude trading around $70 a barrel, down from approximately $100 three years ago. The company’s performance-linked dividend has seen a significant reduction, reflecting broader struggles in the oil industry. Analysts suggest that Aramco may need to tap into debt markets to finance its dividend and capital expenditure commitments if oil prices remain subdued.

Dubai has introduced the Middle East and North Africa’s first tokenised real estate investment platform, Prypco Mint, enabling individuals to invest in fractional shares of ready-to-own properties starting from AED 2,000. This initiative, spearheaded by the Dubai Land Department in collaboration with Prypco and Ctrl Alt Solutions, aims to democratise access to the emirate’s property market.

Currently, the platform is accessible exclusively to holders of UAE Emirates IDs, with plans for global expansion in subsequent phases. Transactions are conducted solely in UAE Dirhams, and cryptocurrencies are not utilised during the pilot stage. Investors can access comprehensive property details, including pricing, risk factors, and technical specifications, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.

The project aligns with the Dubai Real Estate Sector Strategy 2033 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seek to position Dubai as a hub for smart real estate investment. Projections estimate that tokenised assets could account for up to 7% of Dubai’s real estate market by 2033, equivalent to AED 60 billion .

Regulatory oversight is provided by the DLD for physical real estate and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority for digital assets, ensuring an integrated and transparent approach. The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates plays a pivotal role in overseeing the opening of corporate accounts linked to real estate tokenisation through the Client Money Account system, safeguarding investor funds until the purchase process is fully completed.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a significant step towards enhancing liquidity and accessibility in the property market. By enabling fractional ownership, the platform opens up investment opportunities to a broader base of investors, particularly those seeking smaller-scale investments.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has affirmed that crypto perpetual futures are allowed for trading within the United States, providing much-needed regulatory clarity to market participants and investors in the digital asset space. This confirmation signals a significant development in the regulation of cryptocurrency derivatives, which have previously operated in a somewhat ambiguous legal environment. The CFTC’s explicit stance is expected to bring greater legitimacy and stability to an increasingly popular segment of the crypto market, while also setting the tone for future regulatory frameworks.

Crypto perpetual futures, a type of derivative contract that allows traders to speculate on the price movements of cryptocurrencies without an expiry date, have gained widespread traction globally. Unlike traditional futures contracts with fixed settlement dates, perpetual futures enable continuous trading, providing liquidity and hedging opportunities that attract institutional and retail investors alike. However, their regulatory status has often been unclear, causing uncertainty among exchanges and traders, especially in the US, where regulatory agencies tend to apply stringent oversight to financial instruments.

The CFTC’s confirmation comes amid growing scrutiny of the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem, which has faced regulatory challenges regarding investor protection, market manipulation, and systemic risks. The agency clarified that perpetual futures on cryptocurrencies fall under its jurisdiction as derivatives products, which means platforms offering these contracts must comply with relevant CFTC rules and regulations. This includes registration requirements for exchanges, adherence to anti-fraud measures, and maintaining transparent market practices.

Market leaders in crypto derivatives, such as Binance.US, FTX , and CME Group, have actively developed or listed perpetual futures contracts, but the lack of a formal regulatory framework had limited broader institutional adoption. The CFTC’s clear position may pave the way for more exchanges to offer these products, potentially increasing market liquidity and fostering innovation. The move also aligns with the agency’s broader approach to fostering responsible innovation in the derivatives market while safeguarding investor interests.

Industry experts note that the CFTC’s position contrasts with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s approach toward cryptocurrencies, which is generally more cautious, particularly regarding spot trading and certain crypto tokens. The delineation between the two agencies’ jurisdictions has been a subject of ongoing debate, especially since the SEC considers many digital assets as securities, thus subject to more stringent rules. The CFTC’s focus on futures and derivatives, rather than spot trading, offers a clearer regulatory path for these instruments.

This clarification from the CFTC also coincides with increased legislative and policy interest in digital assets at both federal and state levels. Lawmakers have debated comprehensive crypto regulatory frameworks to unify the patchwork of existing rules and provide consistency for market players. The CFTC’s explicit statement on perpetual futures could serve as a foundation for such legislative efforts, informing standards that balance innovation with risk management.

The implications of this regulatory clarity extend beyond the immediate crypto derivatives market. Institutional investors, including hedge funds, asset managers, and pension funds, have expressed cautious interest in digital asset products but often cite regulatory uncertainty as a key barrier. With perpetual futures formally recognised by the CFTC, these market participants may feel more confident engaging in cryptocurrency markets, potentially unlocking fresh capital inflows.

At the same time, consumer advocates and regulatory observers remain watchful. The high leverage and volatility inherent in perpetual futures trading can pose significant risks to less experienced traders, raising concerns about potential losses and market manipulation. The CFTC’s mandate includes protecting market integrity and consumer interests, so its enforcement actions and rulemaking around these contracts will likely intensify to address these risks effectively.

Cryptocurrency exchanges operating within the US have welcomed the announcement, viewing it as a step toward harmonising regulatory oversight and reducing operational uncertainty. Many platforms have invested heavily in compliance infrastructure, knowing that robust regulatory approval is crucial for long-term sustainability and growth. The clear jurisdictional guidance from the CFTC provides a framework for exchanges to innovate within established legal boundaries.

Internationally, regulatory bodies are also grappling with the rapid evolution of crypto derivatives. Countries such as Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom have developed varying approaches to the supervision of perpetual futures and similar instruments. The US’s decision to permit these contracts under the CFTC’s regulatory umbrella could influence global standards, encouraging a more coherent international regulatory environment.

Financial analysts highlight that the integration of crypto perpetual futures into regulated markets may increase price transparency and reduce volatility over time. By bringing these products under official oversight, the CFTC enables enhanced surveillance tools and risk controls, potentially deterring manipulative trading practices that have plagued the crypto space.

This regulatory clarity comes as decentralised finance platforms continue to explore perpetual futures through automated protocols. While the CFTC’s ruling primarily affects centralised exchanges and traditional trading venues, it sets a precedent that could influence regulatory approaches to DeFi derivatives as well. Authorities are closely monitoring DeFi developments, which challenge conventional frameworks due to their borderless and algorithm-driven nature.

Industry voices underscore the importance of balancing innovation with prudent oversight. The CFTC’s confirmation reflects a broader shift towards integrating cryptocurrency markets into the mainstream financial system while managing systemic risks. The move is likely to spur further collaboration between regulators, industry stakeholders, and market participants to develop standards that protect users without stifling technological advancement.

This regulatory milestone arrives amid a period of consolidation and maturation in the crypto market. After years of rapid growth, speculative excesses, and high-profile failures, the sector is increasingly focused on compliance, institutionalisation, and sustainable development. The CFTC’s stance on perpetual futures underlines the evolving recognition that digital assets and their derivatives require clear, enforceable rules tailored to their unique characteristics.

China’s securities regulator has approved the Qatar Investment Authority’s acquisition of a 10% stake in China Asset Management Co. , marking the first significant investment by a major Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund in China’s mutual fund sector. The move positions QIA as the third-largest shareholder in ChinaAMC, which manages assets exceeding 1.8 trillion yuan .

The transaction, facilitated through the purchase of shares from Primavera Capital, was confirmed by the China Securities Regulatory Commission . While the exact financial terms remain undisclosed, prior filings indicate the stake is valued at no less than $490 million. Citic Securities retains a majority 62.2% stake in ChinaAMC, with Mackenzie Financial Corporation holding 27.8%.

This investment underscores China’s strategic pivot towards strengthening economic and financial ties with Gulf nations amid escalating tensions with Western countries. The CSRC has expressed a welcoming stance towards foreign financial institutions and investors from the Middle East, encouraging them to expand their investments in China. This aligns with Beijing’s broader strategy to enhance relations with the Middle East.

The QIA’s interest in ChinaAMC is part of a broader investment strategy in the region. In December 2023, the fund invested approximately $200 million in Kingdee International Software Group Co Ltd, acquiring around 4.26% of the company’s ordinary shares. This move aligns with QIA’s strategic approach to invest in companies and technologies that are leading global digitalization.

ChinaAMC, established in 1998 and headquartered in Beijing, has grown to become the country’s second-largest mutual fund company. The firm offers a range of investment products, including mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, catering to both retail and institutional investors. Its robust performance and expansive client base make it an attractive investment for foreign entities seeking exposure to China’s financial markets.

The QIA’s acquisition of a stake in ChinaAMC is indicative of a broader trend of Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds increasing their investments in China. Data from Global SWF indicates that Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds have invested $7 billion in China since June last year, a significant increase compared to the previous 12 months. This surge in investment is seen as a strategic counterbalance to the withdrawal of some Western financial firms from China amid concerns about its economic recovery and geopolitical risks.

The approval of QIA’s stake in ChinaAMC also reflects China’s ongoing efforts to open up its capital markets to foreign investors. The CSRC has rolled out measures to improve the ecosystem of the country’s capital market, promoting high-level opening and encouraging financial institutions and investors from other countries to expand investment and business operations in China.
